Captain Marvel 2 Latest News & Updates

Cookbook Planner

Most Marvel Cinematic Universe heroes have had direct sequels, but Marvel Studios has something different in store for Captain Marvel. Carol Danvers’ next film won’t be a solo flick but a team-up with Ms. Marvel and Monica Rambeau. Serving as a follow-up to different MCU storylines, The Marvels will be a multigenerational story full of female heroism.

There’s still not much known about the film beyond the cast and crew behind it, but that isn’t keeping MCU fans from fiercely looking forward to it. Having begun production, a lot of speculation is going on, given the cast and the direction of the universe. Here’s what we know so far about Marvel Studio’s upcoming film, The Marvels.

Who’s In The Marvels’ Cast?

The main protagonist of The Marvels will be Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel, played once again by Brie Larson. Along for the ride is Iman Vellani, who will be reprising her role as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel from the Disney+ series, and Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, who first showed up on WandaVision. Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury will also return as Nick Fury in The Marvels.

Other confirmed cast members are Saagar Shaikh, Zenobia Shroff and Mohan Kapur, who play the brother, mother and father, respectively, of Kamala Khan in her TV series. Zawe Ashton and Park Seo-joon have also been confirmed for unspecified roles, though Ashton’s part is supposedly villainous. Who this villain is, or any other one in the movie, is still unknown.

Who Is Behind The Marvels?

Development for a Captain Marvel began in 2020, with Larson quickly confirming her return. Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, who directed the first movie, would not return, however, opening the door for their replacement, Nia DaCosta. She wrote and directed Little Woods and the 2021 Candyman sequel beforehand, but The Marvels will be the first film she’s directed but not written. The film’s editor is Catrin Hedström, who worked with DaCosta on Candyman, while Laura Karpman, who handled the music for What If…?, will serve as the composer.

When Is The Marvels Release Date?

Planned for a 2022 release date, The Marvels got pushed back from its July 8, 2022 date due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It first moved to a November 11, 2022 release date, but by October of that year, it got moved again to February 23, 2023. Most recently, it’s received a new release date of July 28, 2023, almost a year after its initial release window.

More information is sure to come out about The Marvels in the coming months, especially after Ms. Marvel releases on Disney+. That series will be pivotal in transitioning Kamala to the big screen, and it will likely establish her relationship with Carol Danvers. In any case, The Marvels will unite its title heroines in a big way when it releases in theaters in 2023.
