One of the most exciting days of the year for Star Wars is May 4, affectionately known in the community as “May the 4th,” a celebration of all things associated with the absolutely massive franchise. Fans come together every year on this day to share in admiration for the massive world created over 40 years ago and enjoy the fanfare that comes with such an event. For those Star Wars fans that also enjoy video games, Fortnite is ready to celebrate with its newest limited-time event.
For years now, Fortnite has featured all manner of pop-culture crossovers, and one of its most popular collaborations has always been its continued dedication to all things Star Wars related. This year to celebrate Star Wars Day, the game has created a two-week-long event that not only makes significant changes to its gameplay but brings back all of its previous limited items for a Star Wars celebration that is unlike any other. Here’s everything that fans can expect to encounter from May 3 until May 17.
One of the most immediate Star Wars-themed additions that players will notice upon firing up the current Fortnite Season, is the return of the iconic lightsaber to the map. Although this weapon has been featured in many forms in past crossovers, this time it won’t just be a very limited pickup, as these weapons are practically strewn about the map, encouraging as many players as possible to find one. As for the lightsabers themselves, players can find Luke Skywalker’s signature green variant, the truly unique designs of Mace Windu and Kylo Ren’s weapons, and even the iconic blue lightsaber wielded by legendary Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Although each lightsaber plays the same in terms of move set, players can not only chop down everything in the way with a swing of the powerful weapon but also block enemy bullets and do a Jedi-signature flipping evade with the press of a single button. Fortnite is no stranger to bringing back or “Unvaluting” weapons from other seasons, but it takes a big event like this year’s May the 4th celebration for weapons like the lightsaber to make a return as their overpowered nature makes the game much more chaotic than usual.
The return of the lightsaber might steal the show, but it is not the only weapon that has returned for the event. Another iconic weapon that players can now wield is the standard issue rifle for all the Empire’s Stormtroopers, the E-11 Blaster Rifle. This powerful laser slinging weapon can not only be looted across the map but can also be bought by players from one of the many Stormtrooper NPCs that have been placed throughout the map. Ostensibly on a hunt for Obi-Wan, these Stormtroopers can provide players with a rifle for a measly 100 gold bars from their roadblocks which have been set up across the map.
Iconic weapons are one thing, but Fortnite isn’t stopping there with its Star Wars crossover, as it has also opted to bring back every non-battle pass Star Wars skin to the store, giving fans another chance to purchase characters they may have missed in the past. Cosmetic skins for Boba Fett (sporting his new Tusken Raider look), Rey, Finn, Kylo Ren, and more are available for players to purchase until the event is over.
Finally, for those who want to celebrate without spending any money, a new set of quests is available that will earn players a brand new banner icon featuring the Empire’s familiar symbol. Some of these include blocking 10 enemy projectiles with a lightsaber and completing a player bounty given by a Stormtrooper. These will net the player a generous helping of experience points. Star Wars collaborations have proven to be a hit with Fortnite fans, and this new crossover most assuredly won’t be the last time the two massive franchises come together.
