Netflix releases a trailer for Vampire in the Garden, a new original anime series from Wit, the studio behind Ranking of Kings and Attack on Titan.
Netflix released a trailer for its new exclusive anime series, Vampire in the Garden.
The trailer introduces viewers to the new show’s bleak world, in which the last remnants of humanity attempts to hold out against an overwhelming army of vampires. The series is being produced by Wit Studio, the acclaimed animation company behind the first three seasons of Attack on Titan, as well as more recent hits such as 2021’s Ranking of Kings and the new Spy x Family anime. Hiroyuki Tanaka, who previously worked as the assistant director on Attack on Titan, and Ryotaro Makihara, who served as a key animator on The Tatami Galaxy and Summer Wars, are directing the new show together.
Joining the Attack on Titan alumni in the crew is voice actor Yu Kobayashi, who previously played the role of the fan-favorite sniper Sasha Blouse in the anime adaptation of Hajime Isayama’s hit series. Joining her in the cast is Megumi Han, who portrayed Momoji in the 2019 Fruits Basket reboot, and Chiaki Kobayashi, who previously starred as the skateboarding-phenom Langa in the 2021 sleeper hit Sk8 the Infinity.
Netflix describes the story for the new series as:
One cold winter, humanity lost its battle with the vampires, and with it, most of where they called home. A small population of survivors created a wall of light in a small town to protect them and give them a place to live in peace. The protagonist, Momo, lives a repressed life but still wishes to coexist with the enemy, the vampires. Fine, the vampire queen, once loved humans and disappeared from the battlefield. As war rages through the humans’ town, the two have a fateful encounter. Once upon a time, humans and vampires lived in harmony in a place called Paradise. This is the story of a young girl and a vampire on a journey to find Paradise.
While Netflix cancelled many of its original productions in the wake of its subscriber base shrinking for the first time ever, the company appears to be maintaining its commitment to producing more anime. In addition to Vampire in the Garden, the streaming giant also collaborated with Wit Studio on the recently released Bubble, which featured an all-star creative team that included Gen Urobuchi, the writer of Madoka Magica, and Takeshi Obata, the artist behind Death Note. Netflix revealed earlier this year that half of its subscribers use their platform to stream anime, and it has secured a number of high-profile exclusives, including the current seasons of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, Pokémon and Komi Can’t Communicate.
Vampire in the Garden will be available for streaming on Netflix on May 16.
