Tokyo Revengers debuts new art of Toman’s members enjoying a water gun fight for the series’ new collaboration with Tower Records Japan.
Tokyo Revengers released new art of the Tokyo Manji Gang enjoying a carefree summer moment.
As reported by Comic Natalie, the new art shows series hero Takemichi Hanegaki and several key members of Toman, including leader Manjiro “Mikey” Sano and second-in-command Ken “Draken” Ryuguji have some fun with a water gun battle. The art was created for the popular anime and manga series’ new collaboration with Tower Records, which, despite its decline in the United States, is still in business and operates multiple locations throughout Japan. The retailer will open several pop-up shops across Japan from June 3 – 18, which will sell exclusive Tokyo Revengers merchandise. The goods will also be available from Tower Records’ Japanese website for a limited time.
The new art will be printed on acrylic stands, can badges, posters and more, which will be sold exclusively at the pop-up shops. Customers who buy more than 2,000 yen (about $15 USD at current exchange rates) at the pop-up locations will also be given a free post card featuring art of one of the Toman boys. The cards will be distributed randomly, so dedicated Tokyo Revengers fans will have to buy a lot of merch to complete the set.
Tokyo Revengers entered a brief hiatus last month after multiple people close to the production of the manga were confirmed to be infected with COVID-19. The series has since resumed serialization and published its 253rd chapter in Japan earlier this week. Though a final end date has not been announced, the manga began publication of its final story arc at the beginning of the year.
The series tells the story of Takemichi Hanagaki, a twenty-something loser who is devastated to find out that the only woman he ever loved, Hinata Tachibana, has been murdered by the violent Tokyo Manji Gang. After being pushed in front of an oncoming train, Takemichi wakes up 12 years in the past, in the body of his teenage self, with all of his memories and knowledge of the future intact. Determined to save Hinata and change his own future, Takemichi becomes involved with the dangerous gang and attempts to steer past events toward a more positive outcome for everyone invovled.
Tokyo Revengers was created by Ken Wakui and was first published in 2017. In less than four years, the manga achieved a worldwide circulation of over 50 million copies and has become publisher Kodansha’s biggest hit since Attack on Titan. The anime adaptation aired its first season in 2021 and is planned to return with an adaptation of the Christmas Showdown arc. A return date for the anime has yet to be announced.
