Production on Yellowstone Season 5 has officially begun.
Paramount Network announced that the highly-anticipated fifth season of the most popular show on television has started filming in Montana. The main cast is set to return for Season 5 of Yellowstone, including Kevin Costner as John Dutton, with guest stars Jen Landon and Kathryn Kelly returning as series regulars.
Created by Taylor Sheridan and John Linson, the first season of Yellowstone premiered in 2018 and was recently renewed for a fifth season on Paramount Network. “Yellowstone’s record-breaking performance proves we’ve tapped a cultural nerve and unleashed a passionate audience from the center of the country to each of the coasts,” said Chris McCarthy, president of ViacomCBS Media Networks. “Kevin Costner leads our incredible cast who make the Duttons America’s favorite family and, this new season is sure to be another one fans won’t want to miss.”
Yellowstone‘s Season 5 renewal came after Season 4’s record-breaking viewership numbers, with its finale garnering 9.3 million viewers alone when it first aired. The series stars Costner as John Dutton, the proprietor of the Yellowstone/Dutton Ranch, which borders both national parks and Native American reservations. “We are honored to be able to bring audiences another season of Yellowstone,” said executive producer David C. Glasser, 101 Studios. “The continued growth in viewership and the recent recognition from the guilds bolsters our commitment to continue to bring groundbreaking entertainment to audiences.
Along with Costner, the cast of Season 5 will include Luke Grimes, Kelly Reilly, Wes Bentley, Cole Hauser, Kelsey Asbille, Brecken Merrill, Jefferson White, Forrie Smith, Denim Richards, Ian Bohen, Finn Little, Ryan Bingham and Gil Birmingham. Yellowstone is currently the most-watched show on cable television and its popularity has led to multiple spinoff series, including 1883, 6666 and a newly announced spinoff series titled 1932. It was also recently announced that Yellowstone’s prequel series, 1883, will return to Paramount+ for Season 2.
Casting for 1932 has not yet been revealed. 1883 stars Sam Elliott, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Billy Bob Thornton, Isabel May, LaMonica Garrett, Marc Rissmann, Audie Rick, Eric Nelsen and James Landry Hébert. Paramount will also add several other shows to its Sheridan-verse, including Tulsa King, starring Sylvester Stallone, Land Man starring Billy Bob Thornton and Lioness starring Zoe Saldaña. All three shows will debut in 2023.
While Yellowstone can only be streamed on Peacock, its spinoff shows, 1883 and 6666, will all be, or are currently, available on Paramount+.
