Former Marvel Netflix stars Krysten Ritter and Mike Colter recently shared a lighthearted reunion.
On Instagram, Ritter shared a photo of herself alongside Colter, with the two actors being all smiles. It was just a few years ago that Ritter and Colter were staples of Netflix’s lineup of Marvel dramas, starring as the street-level heroes Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, respectively.
A noir-style series ostensibly set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel’s Jessica Jones premiered on Netflix on Nov. 20, 2015, running for a total of three seasons through June 14, 2019. It was Marvel Television’s second Netflix original series, following Marvel’s Daredevil, which dropped its own first season on the platform in April 2015.
Jessica Jones starred Ritter as the title character, a cynical private investigator with super strength and limited flight. The show’s first season also marked the live-action debut of Marvel’s original Hero for Hire, Luke Cage, with Colter stepping into the role. After Jessica Jones Season 1, Colter went on to star in his own spinoff series, Marvel’s Luke Cage, which premiered on Netflix on Sept. 30, 2016, running for two seasons through June 22, 2018.
Jessica Jones Season 1 saw Jessica and Luke share a fling, which was unsurprising, given the characters’ romantic relationship in the original Marvel comic books. However, the two had a falling out after it was revealed that Jessica had killed Luke’s wife, Reva Connors (Parisa Fitz-Henley), while under the control of the mind-controlling villain Kilgrave (David Tennant).
That said, Jessica and Luke eventually made amends in the 2017 Netflix limited series Marvel’s The Defenders, which saw the two join forces with Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) from Daredevil and Danny Rand (Finn Jones) from Marvel’s Iron Fist. Ritter and Colter last shared the screen in 2019, when the latter brought things full circle by making a guest appearance as Luke in the Season 3 finale of Jessica Jones.
At this stage, it remains to be seen if Ritter or Colter will reprise their respective roles in any future Marvel projects. Notably, the aforementioned Cox recently reprised his own role as Matt Murdock in the 2021 Marvel Studios/Sony Pictures film Spider-Man: No Way Home. Around the same time, Cox’s former Daredevil co-star Vincent D’Onofrio reprised his role as Wilson Fisk in Marvel Studios’ Disney+ original series Hawkeye.
Earlier this year, it came to light that Marvel’s entire lineup of Netflix originals — Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders and Marvel’s The Punisher — would actually be leaving the service. The six shows soon found a new home at Disney+, joining the bevy of Marvel content already on the platform.
