A racy censored scene teased in the trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder has MCU fans wondering whether the film will feature a nude Chris Hemsworth.
The trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder contains a censored, disrobed Chris Hemsworth, and some fans are swooning over the implication.
In the recently released trailer, Thor is shown clad in a blue cloak and restrained by Zeus (Russell Crowe) in his court. “Let’s see who you are. I take off your disguise,” Zeus says and blasts a gust of wind at Thor, which not only removes the cloak but all of his clothing. Thor is then seen from behind with a blurred area concealing his buttocks, and fans are wondering whether the film itself will display Hemsworth’s behind in all its muscular glory.
Thor has never been one to shy away from shirtlessness throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but Love and Thunder will mark the first time he’ll be completely unclothed. The MCU overall has been mostly chaste when it comes to sexual situations; Eternals, the 26th film in the franchise, was the first to include a sex scene, though it contained no nudity.
Thor: Love and Thunder takes place after the events of 2019’s Avengers: Endgame and follows Thor Odinson on his journey to find inner peace. However, a new villain named Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale) emerges and starts picking off gods one by one. “All gods will die,” Gorr vows in the trailer. Thor’s not alone in the fight, though — along with Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) and Korg (Taika Waititi), a new hero has appeared on the scene: Thor’s ex Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who wields a reforged Mjolnir and is known as the Mighty Thor.
Director Waititi recently revealed that the film will largely stay faithful to the popular storyline from the Marvel comics that saw Jane take up the mantle of Thor. “We stick pretty closely to Jane’s storyline, and what happened to Jane… because that was such an influence on the film. We’re trying to take the best parts of that.” In the Thor books that follow Jane’s journey, she wields Mjolnir after the original Thor becomes unworthy. However, Jane is battling cancer during this time, and transforming into a god reduces the effectiveness of her chemotherapy treatments.
Originally set for a November 2021 release and delayed several times due to the coronavirus pandemic, Thor: Love and Thunder will finally zap into theaters July 8.
