Disney+ has added a content warning to its new Star Wars series Obi-Wan Kenobi regarding a controversial scene involving violence against children.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, the disclaimer can be found on Obi-Wan Kenobi‘s landing page on Disney+ under the “details” section. “Although this fictional series is a continuation of the story from Star Wars movies filmed many years ago, some scenes may be upsetting to viewers in light of the recent tragic events,” it reads. “Warning: Contains violence involving children.”
However, this warning does not play before the first episode of the show itself, nor does this specific version currently appear for all Disney+ users. A shorter, alternate version of the disclaimer simply reads, “There are certain scenes in this fictional series that some viewers may find upsetting.”
The first episode of Obi-Wan Kenobi, “Part I,” opens with a recap of the 2005 film Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. In the sequence, a squad of Clone Troopers is seen opening fire on younglings (i.e. children) at the Jedi Temple during Order 66. This opening scene has been met with backlash, as Obi-Wan Kenobi‘s premiere comes mere days after the tragic shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.
