The 10 Weakest Avengers & How They Still Contribute

Cookbook Planner

The Avengers are known as Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Over the years, the Avengers have boasted gods, Eternals, Inhumans, mutants, and others of the highest levels of power, allowing them to challenge the most powerful enemies in the universe. These potent heroes are the team’s greatest weapon, but not every member boasts amazing power levels.

There are plenty of Avengers who would be considered weaker heroes, those without earth-shattering powers. However, they still have their place on the team, serving a valuable role in the group.

10 Iron Fist Had Money The New Avengers Needed

Iron Fist joined the New Avengers post-Civil War. Danny Rand had always been a great martial artist and his chi control makes him even better, but he’s still just a normal human otherwise. A guy with a gun who gets lucky could kill Iron Fist. Iron Fist wasn’t on the New Avengers because of his mind-numbing power or even his fighting skill; he was there because of his money.

The New Avengers had been cut off from Iron Man because they refused to register, so Iron First helped fund them, supplying them with planes and the money they would need to stay off the grid. Everything else about him was just icing on the cake; the money was the real reason he was there.

9 Black Widow’s Spy Skills Have Come In Handy Many Times

Black Widow was one of the KGB’s greatest assassins before defecting. She worked with S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Champions before joining the Avengers, using her skills and weapons to prove that she was a great hero. She even led the team for a time, her years of experience as a spy transitioning well to being a superhero.

While Black Widow was enhanced by the Red Room, she isn’t exactly a superhuman. Her spy skills and the leadership abilities earned from years of leading black ops missions have made her a potent Avenger, one who deserves to stand with the best heroes.

8 Spider-Man Made Up For His Relative Lack Of Strength With His Tenacity

Spider-Man is one of Marvel’s greatest heroes, but not because of his powers. His super strength is on the lower end of the spectrum, especially compared to heavy hitters in the Avengers like Thor, Iron Man, or Hercules. Spider-Man is agile and quick, but not extremely so. However, Spider-Man is much more than the sum of his parts.

Not only Spider-Man is one of the smartest heroes, fitting in well with the Avengers’ corps of smart heroes, but he’s tenacious. Spider-Man will throw himself into battle against anyone, as exemplified by the time he took on Phoenix-powered Colossus and Magik to ensure his teammate’s escape, outsmarting and defeating them.

7 Hawkeye’s Long Range Offense & Bravery Have Made Him A Great Avenger

Hawkeye is a regular human, albeit in amazing physical condition, who is a master of one of humanity’s oldest weapons. He fights alongside the greatest heroes of all-time against the deadliest threats. He’s remarkably vulnerable in these battles, but his bravery keeps him going, making him one of the Avengers’ best weapons.

Hawkeye’s long-range offense is the key to any Avengers’ battle plan. His quiver is full of different kinds of trick arrows, giving him varied attacks that make him the team’s best long-range option. This has allowed him to more than earn his keep with the team.

6 The Wasp Brings A Lot To The Table

The women of the Marvel Universe don’t have the easiest time of things, something the Wasp can attest to. For years, she wasn’t given the respect she deserved, even though she was superior to her boyfriend, Hank Pym. Her shrinking, flight, and wasp stings made her an even more potent infiltrator, allowing her to sneak in, move quickly while scouting around, and take down enemies.

On top of that, the Wasps’ experience made her into a great leader of the team, helping them triumph against some of the most dangerous foes ever. She’s taken her sometimes diminutive power set and made it into one of the most formidable.

5 Quicksilver’s Super Speed Is On The Lower End, But He Knows How To Use It

Marvel has some rather fast speedsters, but only one has made a big splash with the Avengers. Quicksilver joined the team alongside his sister and made an immediate impact. Quicksilver is on the low end of the super speed spectrum, able to break the speed of sound, but not hit the really high speeds of some other speedsters.

Quicksilver is not even the fastest Avenger, as some of the flyers are definitely a lot faster than him. However, Quicksilver has mastered the art of super speed combat. He knows how to fight at extreme speeds better than anyone, something that has allowed him to defeat enemies who were faster than him with little fuss.

4 Wolverine Is The Best Tank The Avengers Ever Had

Wolverine is the best there is at what he does. The X-Man has been a member of a lot of teams over the years and was eventually brought on to the Avengers. Wolverine’s offensive oomph isn’t exactly off the charts; he’s only barely superhumanly strong and his claws can cut through anything, but they’re strictly close-up melee weapons.

What makes Wolverine such a great hero is his ability to take damage. Wolverine is a tank; he can take whatever the enemy dishes out and hit them back. He’s also one of the most skilled hand-to-hand fighters out there. He can take enough damage to get in close with just about anyone and carve them up.

3 Black Panther’s Intelligence & Leadership Skills Make Him A Great Avenger

Black Panther is an Avenger whose powers aren’t the greatest, but he makes up for it in other ways. The heart-shaped herbs of Wakanda enhance his strength and speed, and his vibranium weave costume lets him take loads of damage, but what really makes him a great Avenger is his brains. Black Panther has one of the keenest strategic minds on the planet and is a born leader.

Black Panther’s fighting skills are great, but what really earns him his spot as an Avenger is the fact that he can come up with a plan to beat anyone. He’s in that select number of Avengers who could solo the team, and no enemy has a chance against the group when he’s in command.

2 Hank Pym’s Scientific Skills Keep Him With The Team

Hank Pym is one of the Avengers’ most iconic Avengers, but beyond founding the team, there aren’t a lot of reasons for that. In fact, his biggest accomplishment as an Avenger was creating Ultron. As far as combat goes, he’s always been rather bargain basement, regardless of if he’s Ant-Man, Giant-Man, Goliath, Yellowjacket, or Wasp.

Pym was allowed to stay on the team because he was one of the smartest people on Earth. His Pym particles were rather useful, and he was also one of the team’s best weapons against Ultron. His scientific knowledge has made sure he kept his spot in the Avengers.

1 Captain America’s Fighting Prowess, Strategic Expertise & Leadership Skills Have Made Him The Quintessential Avenger

Captain America has done a lot of amazing things over the years, but his powers have rarely been the biggest factor. Offensively, Cap is on the lower end of the Avengers, but that’s not why he’s an Avenger. Cap brings the greatest mix of intangibles to the team, ones that have made him into the perfect Avenger.

For example, not only has Captain America’s fighting skill helped in battle, but he’s also trained Avengers who didn’t know how to fight as well, making them better. He’s the best superhero strategist on the planet, able to come up with plans to beat just about anyone. He’s also the best team leader the Avengers have, knowing how to use each member of the group in battle.
