Demon Slayer follows the journey of Tanjiro Kamado as he tries to find a way to turn his sister back into a human. Tanjiro learns that a demon by the name of Muzan Kibutsuji is the one who turned his sister, and to get closer to Kibutsuji, Tanjiro must battle many lower-level demons. All the demons possess otherworldly strength, but none are as powerful as the demons closest to Kibutsuji.
As Tanjiro delves into the world of demons and Demon Slayers, he learns about the kind of strength it will take to take down Kibutsuji. Tanjiro and his friends encounter many brutal battles along the road to freeing Nezuko from her curse and becoming respectable members of the Demon Slayer Corps.
10 Prospective Demon Slayers Face Demons On Mt. Fujikasane
To become a Demon Slayer, one must survive Final Selection on Mt. Fujikasane. Mt. Fujikasane is a prison for demons who have not been beheaded and a final training ground for prospective Demon Slayers. Final Selection is a seven-day trial of battling demons and fighting for their lives.
Final Selection provides an example of the battles they’ll ultimately face in the real world, but most of the prospective Demon Slayers are typically killed and eaten by demons. Tanjiro faces this brutal truth when he encounters the gigantically morphed Hand Demon and sees him eat a fellow Final Selection participant.
9 The Demon Slayers Become Puppets To Mother Spider
Upon entering the forest of Mt. Natagumo, Tanjiro and Inosuke come across a member of the Demon Slayer Corps named Murata. Murata is anything but relieved to see Tanjiro and the others, and instead insists that a Hashira should have been sent in their place. Murata recounts the harrowing tale of how the Demon Slayers began to turn on one another other once they entered the forest.
Soon, it’s revealed that the Demon Slayers are being controlled like puppets by a demon in the forest. Even the injured Demon Slayers are forced to fight, causing them excruciating pain. Though Tanjiro tries to save them, the demon executes them all with a flick of her spider web puppet strings.
8 Kibutsuji Eliminates The Lower 6 Kizuki
After Rui the Lower 5 of the Twelve Kizuki is defeated, Kibutsuji summons the remaining Lower 6 Kizuki members to his infinity castle. Once assembled, Kibutsuji begins to berate them for their poor performance and turnover rate. Unlike the Upper 6 Kizuki, who have remained unchanged for over a century, the Lower 6 keep getting replaced.
Kibutsuji announces that he is disbanding the Lower 6 Kizuki and proceeds to execute them one by one. The demons do not stand a chance against Kibutsuji, who can read their thoughts and kills them before they even realize what has happened. The one-sided battle only leaves two survivors: Kibutsuji himself and the Lower 1 Kizuki, Enmu.
7 Rengoku & Akaza Fight To The Death
Akaza and Rengoku face off in a battle to the death. Injured from the previous battle with Enmu on the Mugen Train, Tanjiro and Inosuke can only look on from the sidelines. As the battle continues, Rengoku suffers internal damage from Akaza’s powerful attacks but pushes past his physical limits to try to defeat Akaza.
The battle takes a turn when Akaza punches a hole through Rengoku. Rengoku uses all his strength to hold Akaza’s arm in place while he tries to slash his neck with his sword. With the sun slowly rising, Akaza rips his arms off to escape, leaving Rengoku to die.
6 Nezuko’s Releases A New Blood Demon Art Against Daki
As Tanjiro falls to his knees coughing after overexerting himself using the Hinokami Kagura against Daki, Nezuko suddenly appears to save him. Nezuko kicks Daki’s head so hard that it explodes and sends her body flying.
Daki slashes Nezuko to pieces thinking she won’t be able to regenerate for a while, but Nezuko stands, body fully intact. She unleashes a new Blood Demon Art which causes her to grow a horn from her head. Nezuko proceeds to stomp a hole in Daki’s back and burns her with her Exploding Blood Demon Art, all while appearing to enjoy every minute of it.
5 Tanjiro Pushes Past The Pain To Win
With everyone else injured and down from the battle with Daki and Gyutaro, Tanjiro faces Gyutaro alone until Tengen suddenly appears, slashing away at Gyutaro’s Blood Demon Art with the one hand he has left. Holding Gyutaro back gives Tanjiro the opening he needs to strike. Although Gyutaro hooks his scythe under Tanjiro’s chin, Tanjiro doesn’t stop and slices Gyutaro’s head off.
As Tanjiro struggles to regain his breath after using the Hinokami Kagura, Tengen shouts that the battle is not over. Gyutaro’s Blood Demon Art explodes, laying waste to the surrounding area and sending everyone flying.
4 Inosuke Is Overpowered By The Father Spider Demon
Tanjiro and Inosuke get separated in the woods on Mt. Natagumo, leaving Inosuke to battle the giant spider-faced father of the spider family alone. At first Inosuke hides, hoping to merely survive until Tanjiro gets back, but he quickly realizes that’s not the appropriate attitude to have in this situation.
Inosuke tries to fight the demon and successfully causes the creature to flee. Inosuke thinks the creature is scared, but suddenly realizes he retreated to transform, shedding its former skin and emerging a more powerful creature. The spider-faced man grabs Inosuke up in his large fist and squeezes him until he crushes his throat.
3 Rui Is Jealous Of Tanjiro & Nezuko’s Bond
Rui captures Nezuko because he covets the bond between her and Tanjiro and wants to force with her himself. What follows is a tense battle where the Kamado siblings do their best to protect each other, which only serves to enrage Rui further.
Just as Rui believes he’s dealt the final blow, Tanjiro suddenly remembers the Hinokami Kagura dance of his father. Simultaneously, Nezuko wakes up and activates her Blood Demon Art and burns away all of Rui’s threads. Nezuko’s blood lands on Tanjiro’s sword as he’s performing the Hinokami Kagura, and he slices Rui’s head off.
2 Playing Temari Turns Into A Deadly Game
Susamaru attacks Ms. Tamayo’s house with her temari balls where Tanjiro and Nezuko are being hidden. One of the balls hits Yoshiro so hard in the head that his head explodes. Susamaru keeps pummeling the house with her balls until Tanjiro and Nezuko have no choice but to fight. Nezuko tries to kick one of Susamaru’s balls away but gets her leg taken off by it instead.
Once her leg is regenerated, she and Susamaru have a kicking match with the temari, while Tamayo unleashes her Blood Demon Art. Weakened from Tamayo’s Blood Demon Art, Susamaru utters Kibutsuji’s name before large arms emerge from her stomach and mouth, squeezing her head until it bursts and tearing her apart.
1 Tanjiro Must Overcome Enmu’s Nightmares
During Tanjiro and Enmu’s battle atop the Mugen Train, Enmu believes his Blood Demon Art isn’t working on Tanjiro, but then he realizes Tanjiro is breaking out of the dream world. To wake up from Enmu’s dreams, Tanjiro has to kill himself over and over in the dream. Some dreams are good, but the longer Tanjiro resists Enmu’s power, the darker Enmu makes the dreams.
In one particularly horrible dream, Tanjiro sees his murdered family, who begin to blame him for their deaths. When Tanjiro and Inosuke are battling Enmu together, Tanjiro falls asleep so many times that he confuses the dreams with reality and almost slices his actual neck. This fight was definitely a nail-biter.
