Musician and comedian Bo Burnham launches an entire merch store parodying the Marvel Cinematic Universe following the release of The Inside Outtakes.

Bo Burnham, the creator of Netflix’s Inside, revealed a full merchandise store of products parodying the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

A section for Burnham’s own merch store was created for fans to buy actual products for “Inside Studios,” a parody of Marvel Studios and the merch that comes with it. “So here’s how it works: below is a selection of what we are calling ‘WEARABLE CONTENT’,” Burnham wrote on the store’s page. “All you need to do is what we are calling ‘BUY’ this what we are calling ‘WEARABLE CONTENT’ with what we are calling ‘YOUR MONEY’. Now, the cool part. Once you have ‘BUY’ed this ‘WEARABLE CONTENT’ (stay with us here), ‘YOUR MONEY’ will become a LITERAL PART OF THE INSIDE CINEMATIC UNIVERSE. And the more ‘WEARABLE CONTENT’ you ‘BUY’, the more ‘YOUR MONEY’ you get to contribute. It’s pretty awesome.”

At the end of the comedian’s recently released video titled The Inside Outtakes, Burnham jokingly announced the “Inside Cinematic Universe” (ICU), a clear parody of the MCU created by Marvel Studios. Introducing himself as the “president of Inside Studios and adult man in a baseball hat,” Burnam described the MCU parody as being “an interconnected series of films further exploring the beloved characters and themes established by Inside, the film you are currently watching.” The segment came following some brief credits of The Inside Outtakes, further satirizing Marvel’s usage of post-credit scenes.

In the letter posted on the store’s page, Burnham jokingly tells fans of Inside to buy the store’s merch, describing it as a “once-in-a-lifetime” opportunity. “Become a part of us,” Burnham wrote. “Before it’s too late.”

Burnham’s “Inside Studios” store contains multiple actual products for sale, some of which reference jokes and sketches that appeared in the original Inside special in the form of “ICU” movies. Bo Burnham: Inside, which was released on Netflix in 2021 to critical acclaim, was created by Burnham entirely while under quarantine during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The musical dramatic-comedy special came after a five-year break from standup comedy for Burnham, who instead chose to focus on projects such as his directorial debut Eighth Grade (2018) and Emerald Fennell’s Oscar-winning Promising Young Woman (2020). CBR’s review of Inside described it as a “masterpiece” and, later, The Inside Outtakes was released in May 2022 and featured an hour of new footage that didn’t make the final cut of the original Netflix special.

Bo Burnham: Inside is available to stream now on Netflix. The Inside Outtakes can be watched on Burnham’s YouTube channel.
