The trailer for Season 2 of Sterlin Harjo and Taika Waititi’s FX series, Reservation Dogs, teases the adventures to come.

The second season of popular Hulu series, which follows Indigenous teens in Oklahoma, will premiere on Wednesday, Aug. 3. The end of Reservation Dogs Season 1 saw the lead characters, Elora (Devery Jacobs), Bear (D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai), Cheese (Lane Factor), and Willie (Paulina Alexis), plotting to move to California following the death of their good friend. Based on the new trailer, Season 2 picks up right where we left off, with the gang getting into trouble as they attempt to fund their big move.

While specific plot details for Season 2 are mostly under wraps for now, the new episodes will likely show more flashbacks of the origins of the groups’ friendship, as well as some fights due to pent-up feelings over the unexpected death of their friend.

According to Nick Grad, the President of Original Programming at FX, the decision to renew Reservation Dogs for a new season was an easy one. “We could wait to share Reservation Dogs with viewers and are thrilled that they seem to love it as much as we do,” he said last year. “We’re happy to put in an early order for another season. Sterlin Harjo delivered on his creative vision, partnering with Taika Waititi and the rest of the creative team, the brilliant cast and crew to create one of TV’s best new comedies and a groundbreaking showcase of representation and raw talent.”

2022 is proving to be a big year for director Taika Waititi, who, in addition to Reservation Dogs, helmed the recent Thor: Love and Thunder. His upcoming directing projects include The Incal, an epic space opera based on the graphic novel by Alejandro Jodorowsky with illustrations from Jean ‘Moebius’ Giraud, a TV adaptation of Terry Gillam’s 1981 film Time Bandits, as well as an adaptation of Katsuhiro Ôtomo’s manga Akira.

Waititi is also a celebrated actor, appearing in films like Jojo Rabbit, Free Guy, and The Suicide Squad. He took a step back from directing for a while after directing Jojo, explaining last year, “I was a little burned out, and I wanted to do something a lot easier than directing, which is acting!”

The show shares another comic book connection as Jacobs will appear on Marvel’s Echo, which will pick up where Hawkeye left off. The series follows the MCU’s first Indigenous and second Deaf hero, Maya Lopez, played by newcomer Alaqua Cox. Also joining the series will be Vincent D’Onofrio as Kingpin and Daredevil actor Charlie Cox.

Season 2 of Reservation Dogs premieres Aug. 3 on Hulu.
