Since the release of 2017’s Justice League, the DC Extended Universe’s many superheroes have not had much interaction. For the soon-to-be-introduced antihero Black Adam, that’s perfectly fine, according to star Dwayne Johnson.
On social media, fans of the DCEU responded to the announcement of Black Adam‘s presence at San Deigo Comic-Con, writing, “Most electrifying one in the DCEU? Has Black Adam seen what fried doctor brains look like?” referring to director David Ayer’s Suicide Squad. In response, Johnson declared, “No, because Black Adam doesn’t give a fuck.”
The SDCC announcement teased, “FINALLY…The Man in Black COMES HOME TO COMIC-CON,”with Johnson revealing he will appear on the Black Adam Hall H panel. “Get ready because the hype is real. Saturday, July 23rd, San Diego, California, stand up. Comic-Con, get ready, stand up! Because guess who’s coming to town? The MOST electrifying man in all of the DC universe is coming to town.”
What Black Adam Fans Know
The Black Adam star also assured on social media, “You guys know that any time I do an event like this, my main goal and objective is to create something so special and unforgettable for you guys, the fans,” he said. “And I think we’re lining up an incredible Black Adam appearance.”
Few details have been released concerning the events and characters audiences can expect. While the clips and trailers for Black Adam have given viewers a glimpse at the antihero and the Justice Society of America, reports from test screenings suggest the DCEU film has more than a few major surprises in store, including the appearance of a faceless figure in the same vein as the Superman cameo at the end of Shazam! in 2019.
Recently surfaced images for Black Adam merchandise may have also revealed the appearance of Sabbac, who was created by Otto Binder and Al Carreno and made his comic book debut in 1943’s Captain Marvel, Jr. #4. Known in his human form as Timothy Karnes, Sabbac possesses powers similar to those of the Shazam family in that he needs to utter his name to transform. On top of incredible strength, durability and the ability to fly, Sabbac can create fire.
Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, Warner Bros.’ Black Adam is scheduled to arrive in theaters on July 29.
