The next episode of The CW’s Riverdale sees Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) reunite with her older sister, Polly Cooper (Tiera Skovbye), following the latter’s return from the grave.
The CW has provided CBR with an exclusive clip from “Chapter One Hundred and Fifteen: Return to Rivervale,” which is slated to air this Sunday, July 17 as the 20th episode of Riverdale Season 6. The clip features a touching reunion between the Cooper sisters, with Polly having been resurrected by Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch) in last Sunday’s episode, “Chapter One Hundred and Fourteen: The Witches of Riverdale.”
The official synopsis for “Return to Rivervale” reads as follows:
THE ULTIMATE MAN OF MYSTERY — Archie (KJ Apa) and the gang gather intel about Percival (guest star Chris O’Shea) so they can better understand where he came from and use that to their advantage. However, when their plan results in an unexpected outcome, the gang is left having to pay a terrible cost. Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes, Cole Sprouse, Madelaine Petsch, Mädchen Amick, Casey Cott, Vanessa Morgan, Charles Melton, Erinn Westbrook and Drew Ray Tanner also star. Anna Kerrigan directed the episode written by Ted Sullivan & Devon Turner (#620). Original airdate 7/17/2022.
The Life, Death and Resurrection of Polly Cooper
Of course, Season 1 of The CW’s Archie Comics-based drama centered on the murder of Cheryl’s twin brother, Jason Blossom (Trevor Stines). Betty’s older sister, Polly, was absent from the season’s first several episodes. It was later revealed that their parents — Hal (Lochlyn Munro) and Alice Cooper (Mädchen Amick) — sent Polly away upon learning that she was pregnant with Jason’s babies and that the two planned to run away together. Riverdale Season 1 ultimately revealed that Jason was killed by none other than his own father, Clifford Blossom (Barclay Hope).
Following a turbulent journey of her own, Polly was ultimately killed off in Riverdale Season 5. In Season 6’s “The Witches of Riverdale,” however, the aforementioned Cheryl learned from Sabrina Spellman (Kiernan Shipka) that she has the power of the phoenix, meaning she can resurrect the dead. In turn, she brought back a number of deceased characters, including Jason and Polly, who had been happily living together in The Sweet Hereafter (i.e. Heaven) since both meeting their demise.
The sixth season of Riverdale premiered on The CW in November 2021, starting with the five-episode “Rivervale” event, which first saw Shipka reprise her role as Sabrina from Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. After the event ended in December, Riverdale went on hiatus, with Season 6 picking back up again in March 2022. The show has been renewed for a seventh season, which will be its last.
