Boruto has a fun cast of engaging characters. Due to more peaceful times, most characters haven’t gone through the wringer like Naruto Uzumaki’s generation. Thus, fewer people in Boruto have died, leaving the series with fewer iconic death scenes than Naruto.
Boruto has the potential to give its characters memorable deaths akin to Naruto. Boruto’s cast can have story arcs that develop their personalities and build up to their demises. Their deaths should be symbolic of who they are as people, representing their individual arcs. Their deaths should also surprise and emotionally resonate with the fan base.
Rock Lee and Might Guy had scary moments in Naruto when it looked like they might die. Rock and Might showed that they were always ready to give their all in a fight, willing to sacrifice themselves. Since Metal Lee is their successor, it is suitable for him to have a similar moment.
Metal Lee can fight using the Eighth Gate, sacrificing himself for Konoha. It would be an homage to his predecessors, and Boruto can surprise fans by having Metal Lee actually die. Fans were disappointed that neither Rock Lee nor Might Guy perished during the war, so Metal Lee doing so would be a great writing choice.
9 Iwabee Can Prove That He Could’ve Been Hokage
Iwabee Yuino is interesting because he moved past his pride and learned to work with others. He dreams of being Hokage and has a friendly rivalry with Sarada Uchiha.
The Hokage views the village as their family, so Iwabe should have a death that reflects that sentiment. He can die protecting his friends and village, proving that he has the heart of a Hokage. In a heartwarming moment, he can also give Sarada his blessing to become Hokage. Iwabee’s death would be very honorable and earn him many more fans.
8 Tsubaki Can Show Her Love For Konoha
Tsubaki Kurogane started off alienated from her team and Konoha, dismissing the way of the shinobi. Over time, she respected Konoha and formed a bond with her teammates. Tsubaki decided to stay in Konoha, looking to become a chunin.
Tsubaki should have a death that demonstrates her newfound love for Konoha. She should sacrifice herself to save the village and her friends, showing that she views Konoha’s citizens as her family. Tsubaki’s demise can be a touching way to show her growth throughout Boruto. Tsubaki’s death would also be shocking because she is a fan favorite, giving the audience a scene they didn’t see coming.
7 Sumire Can Risk Her Life For Boruto
Sumire Kakei betrayed the village, but she tried to make up for her mistakes. She is an ally of Team 7 and has developed romantic feelings for Boruto Uzumaki.
Fans often compare Sumire and Hinata Hyuga due to their similar personalities. Boruto can play around with this similarity and reference Hinata’s fight against Pain in Naruto Shippuden. Sumire can risk her life to save Boruto, but the show should actually kill her off. Boruto can also get a plot line where he discovers her feelings for him shortly before she dies. Sumire’s sacrifice would be shocking and pay homage to the Pain fight, but also stand on its own.
6 Shikadai Can Die A True Leader
Shikadai Naru’s father, Shikamaru Naru, came close to death a few times in Naruto. Similar to his father, Shikadai is chunin, a strategist, and a leader. Shikadai’s death can happen on a mission he needs to lead.
Shikadai can try his best to lead his team against a threat that is too powerful for them. The audience can see Shikadai push past his limits and be a strong leader like Shikamaru. Although things look dire and people die, Shikadai can still lead the team to victory. Shikadai can die, gladly fulfilling his mission and honoring the Nara legacy. He will truly earn the respect of the fan base and become more loved by the community.
5 Shinki Can Prove That He Is A Worthy Kazekage
Shinki is Gaara’s pupil and adopted son. Gaara teaches the boy how to control his powers and form bonds with others. Over time, Shinki became a great chunin and bonded with Boruto. Shinki even tried to get Kawaki to be more open with other shinobi.
As Gaara’s pupil, Shinki might become the Kazekage one day. If he does, he can sacrifice himself to save the Sand Village. Such a story would resonate with fans. Shinki would prove he was a worthy shinobi and Kazegage because he formed bonds with the villagers. Shinki took his master’s teachings to heart, honoring Gaara’s legacy.
4 Boruto Should Be A Tragic Hero
Boruto is doomed to fight Kawaki in a destroyed Konoha. Many fans suspect Boruto will be a tragic hero, dying to save the village and the world.
Boruto dying as a tragic hero would be a great subversion because he is the title character. Shonen main protagonists, including Naruto, usually survive the harshest circumstances. Boruto can set itself apart from the crowd by killing off its main character, giving him the iconic death Naruto never got. Boruto has received much criticism, but dying as a tragic hero can win over the hearts of his detractors.
3 Boruto Should kill Kawaki
A big plot in Naruto Shippuden was that Naruto might have to kill Sasuke Uchiha. Naruto didn’t, ultimately saving his friend from the darkness. Boruto can subvert this plot point by having its title character kill Kawaki.
Kawaki looks like he will betray the village and fight Boruto. While Sasuke ultimately reformed, it would be a great twist to have Kawaki remain a villain. The fan base grew used to idealism in the Naruto franchise. Boruto can have no choice but to kill Kawaki, shocking the fan base.
2 Koji Can Die Like Jiraiya
Koji Kashin is a clone of Jiraiya, created to kill Isshiki. Although Koji failed in his goal, he proved himself to be a strong fighter and wouldn’t give up so easily. He has much potential for a character arc that leads to a climactic ending.
Fans see the potential for Koji to have a great character arc and emotional death. Of course, Boruto needs to develop Koji and expand on his motivations. Koji can become a great hero and have a memorable demise. Koji’s death can reflect his life choices and successes versus failures. Koji’s death would be like Jiraiya’s, but the journey of getting there can be unique.
1 Katasuke Can Have A Symbolic Death
Katasuke can have a death revolving around his inventions. He had tried to help Konoha by creating the Scientific Ninja Tools. Although his tools helped combat and prosthetics, enemies also used the tools to attack Konoha. Katasuke felt guilty about his ninja tools until Boruto reminded him that the inventions had done good things, too.
Katasuke can protect Konoha using his Scientific Ninja Tools. A villain can use Katasuke’s own tools against him, killing the scientist with his own weapons. However, Katasuke can also take the enemy down with him and save Konoha. A death like this would be a symbolic reminder of Katasuke’s previous guilt with his inventions. Katasuke can still feel bad about the misuse of the Ninja Tools. However, in his final moments, Katsuke can be happy that he invented them.
