The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles team up once again in a sequel to their last epic comic book crossover.
The worlds of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are poised to collide once again.
BOOM! Studios has officially announced the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II by longtime MMPR writer Ryan Parrott (Go Go Power Rangers, Rogue Sun) and artist Dan Mora (Once & Future, Batman/Superman: World’s Finest). The series is being produced under license by Hasbro and in partnership with both IDW Publishing and Nickelodeon. It is set to serve as a follow-up to 2019’s Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, also written by Parrott and illustrated by Simone di Meo.
BOOM! Senior Editor Dafna Pleban recalled that “The first Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles team up resulted in iconic moments such as the reveal of the Green Ranger Shredder, the Ninja Rangers, and the mighty Turtlezord!” She also promised readers that the sequel would have even more astonishing moments in store, saying, “But if you think there’s nothing that could top that, just wait ’til you see what’s up next for both teams as they face familiar faces and unexpected villains in an adventure full of the new shocking twists and turns!”
The first crossover stood as something of a redemption song for the two teams’ original ill-fated live action crossover, which saw the casts of 1998’s Power Rangers in Space and the maligned Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation team-up to take on the threat of Astronema. In the 2019 series, Tommy Oliver allowed himself to be lured under the shadow of the Shredder as a means of infiltrating the Foot Clan, only for the iconic TMNT villain to end up claiming Tommy’s Green Ranger powers for himself. When the rest of the Rangers lost their abilities as well, they entrusted their Morphers to the Heroes in a Half Shell, leading to one of the most fantastical transformation the Turtles have ever undergone.
Though details are sparse at the moment, the wraparound cover for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II sees the eponymous teams facing off against both Foot Clan ninjas and hulking Putty Patrollers, all while the interdimensional Krang watches on from the edge of the battlefield in his most iconic form. Despite both teams’ current ongoing series having updated their respective rosters with terrifying new versions of classic TMNT and Power Rangers in Space characters in recent months, it looks like the upcoming crossover is set to star the classic lineups that fans know best.
