What We Do in the Shadows Hinted Nandor’s Bisexuality Will Test Guillermo

Cookbook Planner

For quite some time, the highly-popular What We Do in the Shadows has been teasing the relationship between Guillermo and his vampire master, Nandor. Guillermo longed for something more, but no matter what, Nandor ignored the human totally. Still, despite Nandor pursuing the likes of Gina in the modern era, Guillermo felt like someday their bond could evolve into something more.

Well, come the start of Season 4, that sense of hope grew when Nandor revealed he was actually married to men before. In the process, the series offered more insight into Nandor’s past and how he was in relationships. However, while this confirmation may have been great for Guillermo, it may also be his greatest test moving forward as Guillermo isn’t the same person as before.

Nandor returned from his home in Al Quolindar, bringing back 850 pounds of ancestral treasure to their Staten Island coven. The 750-year-old bloodsucker wanted to use the relics as dowry, eventually asking Guillermo to be his best man; although, he was yet to find someone to marry. Nandor eventually used a djinn to bring his 37 wives back from the dead, thinking he could rekindle true love again and remarry.

Some of these wives were men, which led to a dating bonanza. Nandor went on a series of dates: giving guys roses, sitting in the pond, and even wrestling with the strong, muscular Kublai — sides of the vampire which Guillermo was shocked to see. Unfortunately, Nandor had the djinn dust most of them away, opting to settle for Marwa, a woman he thinks is his soulmate.

Now, this is going to be a predicament for Guillermo, because Nandor’s clearly unhappy with Marwa. The problem is, Guillermo’s in a long-distance relationship, taking a call from someone who misses him. Guillermo even told the mockumentary crew he’s happy at last, putting himself first. He gave so much to Nandor, as a bodyguard, familiar and friend, he just can’t dedicate himself to someone who won’t reciprocate anymore.

However, Nandor’s slowly realizing the difference between attraction and connection. It’s obvious he didn’t have chemistry with his exes because they didn’t know who he was deep down inside. Guillermo does, and Nandor has been accepting this notion more, even sticking up for him a bit with Laszlo and Nadja. It teases him becoming more vulnerable, which means he might finally explore the possibility Guillermo could have been the right one all along.

But the timing may be off due to Guillermo moving on when Nandor was away on his journey of self-discovery. Guillermo will always harbor a soft spot for Nandor, though, which muddies the water over whether he’ll break someone’s heart should Nandor create a romantic path for them to explore. After all, Guillermo didn’t like someone stomping on his heart, so he may not want to hurt his current partner. Ultimately, this adds a lot of nuance and drama to their bond, foreshadowing tough choices down the line as Guillermo seeks contentment.

What We Do in the Shadows airs on Tuesdays at 10 P.M. EST on FX.
