Hasbro’s “Titan Heroes Series” Spider-Man 2099 figure gives fans their clearest look yet at the webslinger’s outfit in Across the Spider-Verse.

A newly-released Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse action figure offers fans their best look yet at the costume worn by Spider-Man 2099 in the upcoming animated blockbuster.

A photo of the 12″ figure, part of Hasbro’s “Titan Heroes Series” line, recently surfaced on Twitter. It highlights how closely this version of Miguel O’Hara’s crime-fighting outfit resembles the original designs by his co-creator Rick Leonardi. At the same time, the Spider-Man 2099 toy and its box art also include minor changes to the superhero’s established look, such as different shaped eye markings on the mask and a different spin on the spider logo itself.

Spider-Man 2099 first appeared on the big screen in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, making a brief cameo during the Oscar-winning film’s post-credits scene. The character was voiced by Oscar Isaac, who reprises the role in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Isaac recently explained how his incarnation of the wall-crawler differs from his cross-dimensional counterparts in the movie. “[W]hat makes this character so funny is that he’s the one Spider-Man that doesn’t have a sense of humor,” he said. “Because all of them act like — they’re like wisecracks, right? Everybody wisecracks, except this guy just doesn’t. He’s a very serious Spider-Man.”

Who Is the Main Villain in Across the Spider-Verse?

The Across the Spider-Verse teaser trailer suggests that Spider-Man 2099 will trade blows with protagonist Miles Morales (Shameik Moore), although the pair are expected to team up to confront the film’s villain, The Spot. Sony Pictures Animation previously described The Spot as a formidable foe who is covered in interdimensional portals which he can use to travel anywhere almost instantly. The baddie can also summon these portals at will and use them to transport people and objects wherever he wants.

Co-director Kemp Powers expanded on Sony’s description of The Spot in a recent interview, explaining why he was the perfect villain for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. “The Spot, from the very beginning, he just seemed like endless potential — both visually and the arc of the character,” he said. “By the way, that’s not a costume, that’s his skin he’s wearing. He’s not a guy in a polka dot suit, that’s actually his skin. And the arc of Doctor Ohnn/The Spot does really complement, without giving away the story, the journey of Miles [Morales] in this film really well.”

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse swings into theaters on June 2, 2023.
