Justified Proves That Cobb Vanth Needs a Star Wars Series

Cookbook Planner

Star Wars is full of incredible characters and deep lore about everyone. There is hardly a character in the universe that doesn’t have some in-depth backstory or small tidbit of information about them. Cobb Vanth started out having a small role in the Aftermath trilogy and has grown immensely from there. Introduced in The Mandalorian Season 2, Cobb has grown from a simple lawman for a small town to an icon of Tatooine. Played by Timothy Olyphant, Cobb Vanth has many similarities with his character of Raylan Givens from the hit series Justified. The characters are so similar in fact that Justified success proves that a Cobb Vanth solo series would have a big audience.

Justified looks at the character of Raylan Givens, a US Marshall. Givens has the attitude and the trigger finger of the last gunslinger left in the US. He is frequently critiqued for his cowboy antics and reminded that the US is no longer the wild west. The show is a compelling procedural drama that perfectly melds the Western genre with the modern police dramas. Cobb Vanth is the sheriff of a small town on the planet of Tatooine. He is quick on the draw and will do anything to protect his town and his people. When Olyphant showed up as Cobb Vanth, fans immediately started to draw comparisons between the Star Wars cowboy and his Justified counterpart.

A Cobb Vanth Series Would Be Justified in Space

Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens from Justified: City Primeval

The role of Raylan Givens is probably the inspiration behind casting Olyphant as Vanth when it came time for The Mandalorian. Olyphant brought charisma to the role and managed to make Vanth just as intimidating as Mando himself. Vanth and Givens are both lawmen who also operate outside the bounds of traditional law enforcement. The major difference is that Vanth doesn’t have to answer to anyone for his actions. At the end of The Book of Boba Fett, Vanth had been shot, but he was on the mend thanks to Boba and his friends. He can either return to Freetown or take on a bigger role on the planet.

With Boba Fett now securely the daimyo of Mos Eisley, Vanth could become the Marshall for the entire area between Mos Eisley and Freetown. He could essentially be the legal arm of Fett’s operation. Vanth may be a lawman, but he isn’t above working with people of all types to get the job done. Fett has honored and that is what matters most to Vanth. Vanth’s series could be a police procedural style, which The Mandalorian Season 3 already attempted, allowing Vanth to work a variety of cases. Much like Givens in Justified, the series can have Vanth taking down other crime families and exploring his history in the Star Wars galaxy.

Cobb Vanth Could Save the Rangers of the New Republic

Rangers of the New Republic was a series that was supposed to star Gina Carano as Cara Dune. After she was fired from the series for her actions on social media, Rangers of the New Republic was effectively canceled. There have been many rumors and speculations about who could take over the lead of the series, and Cobb Vanth is certainly a strong option. The New Republic could approach him to take on a mission for the Outer Rim, effectively making him a Marshall for the entire sector. He could work alongside people like Carson Teva or even Zeb Orrelios. This would let him explore more of the galaxy and have a much larger scale story.

Justified was an incredibly popular show in its time, and even now its popularity has extended to the new series Justified: City Primeval. Star Wars could piggyback off that continued popularity and create a new series focusing on Cobb Vanth. He could either serve alongside Boba Fett, keeping order on Tatooine or he could join up with the New Republic and save the series Rangers of the New Republic. Vanth and Givens are very similar and it makes sense that the popularity of one character may bleed over into the other.
