It’s official: The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be web-slinging its way to Disney+ next month.
Recently, reports had emerged about the sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man finally becoming available on the Disney+ streaming service. This follows the addition of the first film to the streamer back in April, though it wasn’t until now that it was officially announced when The Amazing Spider-Man 2 would start streaming. As revealed in a new post on the official Twitter account for Disney+, the sequel, led by Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, will arrive on Aug. 11, 2023.
This will mark the first time The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has been made available for streaming on Disney+. This was due to rights issues, but once they were resolved, it was announced that Sony’s Spider-Man films would be coming to Disney+ for the first time. Several movies were quickly made available, which includes the original Spider-Man trilogy from director Sam Raimi and star Tobey Maguire. The Amazing Spider-Man was also added with no release date set for the sequel, and Venom was added to Disney+ in May with no word yet on when Venom: Let There Be Carnage will be included.
When Are the Spider-Man: Homecoming Sequels Coming to Disney+?
Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: Homecoming would join the streaming service as well, though there’s no word yet on when Spider-Man: Far from Home and Spider-Man: No Way Home will also be available. However, given how The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is coming into the picture, perhaps those other Spidey films won’t be too far off from getting included. For now, no official release dates have been announced.
Directed by Marc Webb, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was originally released in 2014. Serving as a direct sequel to the first film, the movie brings back Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone to respectively play Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy. The film also notable featured Jamie Foxx as Electro, Dane DeHaan as Green Goblin, and Paul Giamatti as Rhino. As with Tobey Maguire’s trilogy, there was a plan to keep the franchise moving, though these plans were ultimately scrapped when Tom Holland joined the MCU to introduce a new incarnation of Spider-Man.
In 2021, Garfield would reprise his role as Peter Parker to join Maguire and Holland’s versions in Spider-Man: No Way Home. The success of that film would inspire rumors of Garfield potentially getting his own third installment of The Amazing Spider-Man, though no such sequel has been announced by Marvel Studios at this time.
