Author, educator, and Vlogbrother Hank Green has unlocked another avenue to disperse scientific fun facts to the masses, this time as a player at Dimension 20‘s table.
Prolific Game Master Brennan Lee Mulligan unveiled a world of neuro-noir in the trailer for Mentopolis, a six-episode campaign that featured Green alongside fellow Dimension 20 newcomers Freddie Wong and Alex Song-Xia. Previous Dimension 20 role players Siobhan Thomson, Mike Trapp, and Danielle Radford round out the cast for this hard-boiled mystery fueled by cerebral puns and Dutch angles. Rather than 5th Edition Dungeons & Dragons, Mentopolis utilized the TTRPG system Kids on Bikes, familiar to Dimension 20 fans from the Misfits & Magic campaign.
In Mentopolis, the player characters occupy the brain of Elias Hodge and each represents an element of the psyche in a mechanic reminiscent of Meet Dave or Inside Out. For example, Thomson’s Imelda Pulse symbolizes impulse control while Radford’s Anastasia Tension represents Hodge’s attention span. Green described his character, “The Fix,” as “a manifestation of the system that allows for hyperfixation.” Mentopolis‘ trailer already cast Green in a position familiar to his fans, exposing facts about human biology and eyebrow-raising snake anatomy.
Green’s multi-hyphenate career has allowed audiences to explore their own hyperfixations in arenas such as science, history, and fandom and exposed countless others to new interests and passions. Alongside his brother, author John Green, Green has cultivated a fanbase of his own sparking excitement about his new, yet strikingly familiar, role in Dimension 20: Mentopolis. In fact, Green teased a new project on Twitter prior to the trailer’s release and many followers correctly guessed that he’d be partaking in Dimension 20‘s next adventure.
Recent Dimension 20 Seasons stirred similar excitement from Matthew Mercer’s Dungeon Master stint on A Crown of Candy prequel The Ravening War to the delightful chaos of Dungeons & Drag Queens. While Dimension 20‘s network, Dropout, operates independently of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, production on Dropout series remains on temporary hold during the joint WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike according to CEO Sam Reich. Dimension 20: Mentopolis is part of the Dropout slate produced prior to the strike-related halt and its release will not be impacted by the ongoing battle for fair wages in the entertainment industry.
Dimension 20 fans can satiate their Mentopolis fix on August 9 when the series premieres on Dropout, with the first episode available for free on YouTube starting August 16.
