DreamWorks has announced two all-new video games featuring beloved characters from the DreamWorks Animation library, though perhaps Shrek was all that was needed to pique the interest of fans, as this will be his first time in a console video game in over a decade.
Per IGN, Shrek and his DreamWorks Animation friends will be playable racers in the upcoming video game DreamWorks All-Star Kart Racing. Of course, the game is reminiscent of the incredibly popular Mario Kart series, though the format has since been used for other similar titles. MultiVersus is similarly a fighting game that features Warner Bros. characters, while Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl pits Nick characters against one another. DreamWorks previously got in on the fun with the game DreamWorks Super Star Kartz, but that was back in 2011, and the time has come to Shrek to hit the track on modern consoles.
DreamWorks All-Star Kart Racing will include 20 different characters from various DreamWorks Animation titles. That obviously includes Shrek, though others who’ve been confirmed include Po, Tigress, Boss Baby, Puss in Boots, Hiccup, Astrid, and much more. Kung Fu Panda‘s Master Oogway and Puss In Boots: The Last Wish‘s Wolf are going to be made available as well, but only for the Digital Deluxe Edition. There will be familiar locations in the game, which will include Shrek’s Kingdom of Far, Far Away, Bergen town from Trolls, Spirit Realm from Kung Fu Panda, Baby Corp from The Boss Baby, the New York City Zoo from Madagascar, and others.
The Trolls Are Also Getting a Game
Trolls characters are featured, as they’re depicted as hosting the races and offering power-ups to players in DreamWorks All-Star Kart Racing. But that’s not to say that Poppy and pals will be stuck in the back seat. They are also getting their very own game to be released separate from the kart racing game. Also announced was DreamWorks Trolls Remix Rescue, which lets players control Poppy, Branch, Guy Diamond, and other favorites. Players can even create and customize their own Trolls. The game is developed by Petit Fabrik (Kukoos: Lost Pets).
These games don’t yet have official release dates set, so it’s not yet known when gamers can expect to get their hands on DreamWorks All-Star Kart Racing and DreamWorks Trolls Remix Rescue. Reportedy, both are expected to arrive later in 2023. Each title will be made available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Steam.
