A new report alleges that the High Republic-set Star Wars series The Acolyte is aiming to arrive on Disney+ in the second quarter of 2024.

While Lucasfilm and Disney are keeping quiet about Star Wars: The Acolyte‘s premiere date, a new report suggests the show may have honed in a release window.

Per Bespin Bulletin, the High Republic-set mystery-thriller is allegedly looking to hit Disney+ in the second quarter of 2024. The industry insider notes that this would place the show’s launch between April 1 and June 30. While this window is currently unconfirmed, Bespin Bulletin does go on to say that there’s a chance the ongoing Writers Guild of America and Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists strikes will push the release date back. This remains pure speculation at the time of writing.

The Acolyte is arguably the most mysterious Star Wars project in development as the show’s creative team has made it clear that they’re taking the franchise in a new and unknown direction. Showrunner Leslye Headland noted that the series will be one of the first chapters in the sprawling sci-fi franchise that doesn’t deal with galactic conflict, instead focusing on a more personal struggle between the Jedi and an insidious force that’s quietly spreading. “It was very challenging and interesting to make a Star Wars with no war in it. So the question became, ‘Well, what should the show be about if it’s not going to be about galactic conflict?'” Headland explained.

Examining the Jedi’s Philosophy

While there may not be a full-scale war in The Acolyte, that doesn’t mean the show won’t feature a great deal of conflict. Headland has made it clear that the narrative places a great deal of emphasis on the villains who stand against The Jedi, presenting an argument that maybe the Force-wielding peacekeepers aren’t always in the right. “What I think is so interesting right now is that everybody thinks they’re right! The Jedi really think they’re right — and George [Lucas] tells us that they’re wrong in Phantom.”

Star Wars: The Acolyte will follow a young padawan and their master as they investigate a sinister string of crimes that seemingly connect to a much larger conspiracy. Headland serves as the writer, director and executive producer of the series while the cast includes the likes of Amandla Stenberg, Lee Jung-jae, Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keene and Carrie-Anne Moss.

Star Wars: The Acolyte does not yet have a solid release date.
