Echo Will Give Maya Lopez a New Superpower

Rumors abound that the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe series Echo will give its titular character a new superpower.

Per Reddit, according to insider CanWeGetSomeToast, protagonist Maya Lopez will gain “sharpshooter” abilities, manifesting a spiritual gun used by one of her ancestors to take out different targets. In the comics and in the Hawkeye show that saw Echo join the MCU, Maya Lopez has no otherwordly abilities, instead using her photographic reflexes to learn and adapt a variety of fighting styles. It’s worth noting that neither Marvel Studios nor Disney have responded to this report so fans are recommended to take the news with a grain of salt.

While Echo‘s Disney+ premiere may be only a few months away, details about the series are still largely scarce. Marvel Studios has confirmed that it will be the first MCU series to debut all of its episodes at once, an announcement that left many fans concerned about the show’s quality. As for the a narrative, the story will follow Maya Lopez as she leaves behind the criminal underworld of New York City an attempts to reconnect with both herself and her Native American roots.

Kingpin’s Return

Despite fans’ excitement to Alaqua Cox reprise her role as Echo, many are also excited to see the show’s supporting cast. One character confirmed to make a return is Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin, once again played by Vincent D’Onofrio. In Hawkeye, it was confirmed that the powerful crime lord was a parental figure to Echo, a relationship that ultimately crumbled and resulted in Maya Lopex seemingly shooting him. D’Onofrio has confirmed that Echo will explore their dynamic futher, settting up even more MCU adventures. “It’s like full-on in the last few episodes of [Echo],” D’Onofrio said. “It’s going to be quite something. And that leads into, of course, Born Again.”

As for what tone audiences can expect in Echo, producer Stephen Broussard promised that the show will be markedly different to what many fans have come know as the MCU. “It’s very different. Like, talking about Werewolf By Night to this. It’s a very different tonal sort of thing,” Broussard said. “I don’t want to say too much because there’s not a whole lot out there in the world, but it feels very grounded, it feels very spiritual in ways that feel fresh for us.”

Echo hits Disney+ on Nov. 29.
