Only Murders in the Building will be returning soon to Hulu streaming for a third season, and audiences are ready for it. The popular murder mystery starring two of comedy’s biggest names (Steve Martin and Martin Short) premiered on August 31, 2021, and shows no signs of slowing down. Each season, so far, has been packed with intrigue, a parade of guest stars (like Sting and Amy Schumer), and a maze-like mystery leaving viewers laughing and guessing along the way. No doubt, a great deal of Hollywood is more than willing to come along for the ride.
The finale of Season 2 saw actor Paul Rudd appear as Ben Glenroy, who dies under mysterious circumstances. Since then, both in trailers and on the show’s socials, new guest stars like Meryl Streep, Ashley Park, and Matthew Broderick have been seen making appearances. Premiering a bit later in the summer than last year’s Season 2, it’s been a long wait to see what lies in store for Charles-Haden Savage (Martin), Oliver Putnam (Short), and Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez) in the upcoming season.
When and Where Will Only Murders Season 3 Release?
Season 3 will be available to stream on August 8, 2023, on Hulu. The first and second seasons are also available just in case anyone needs a refresher or for curious newcomers to binge. Gomez herself said in an interview with The Wrap that she thinks it will be the best season yet. Some images of Gomez’s character have been released in a wedding dress, so there may be some interesting turns for Mabel around the corner. However, there’s no sign of Alice (Cara Delevingne), her love interest from Season 2.
Who’ll Be Returning in the New Season?
As of now, it looks like the series mainstays will be returning for Season 3: Charles, Oliver, Mabel and a smattering of Arconia residents and regulars (like Jackie, played by Uma Heller, Howard, played by Michael Cyril Creighton, and Andrea Martin, who plays Joy — Charles’ potential love interest). Most famously, Streep made an appearance on the show’s Instagram account earlier this year in a surprise reveal. She’ll be playing actress Loretta Durkin. Park looks like she’ll be playing another TikTok-obsessed member of the cast of Oliver’s show, while Jane Lynch and Tina Fey reprise their roles as Charles’ stunt double Sazz Pataki and Cinda Canning, respectively. Broderick’s role is, as yet, undisclosed.
Rudd, it seems, will be the person whose murder everyone is trying to solve. There has yet to be any hard evidence that Charles’ former girlfriend’s daughter, Lucy (Zoe Margaret Colletti), will be returning, although she did play a major part in Season 2 and was seen attending the premiere of Oliver’s play in which Charles was acting at the end of Season 2. Da’Vine Joy Randolph will also be returning as Detective Donna Williams to potentially question why our three mainstays are, once again, involved in a murder investigation.
Is the Series Still Set at The Arconia?
It’s hard to imagine a season of Only Murders without the Arconia. The building is almost as much a star of the show as Martin, Short, and Gomez. It generally plays some part in how the murders are accomplished as well. In Season 1, the Arconia established itself as the “building” referenced in the show’s title, where not one but two murders took place. And in Season 2, when the murderer, Poppy (Adina Verson), used its hidden passageways to sneak around, the audience got to know more of its history. In some of the recently released teaser footage, it seems like a lot of the action will be happening in the theater in which the play within the show is being produced — but the Arconia will still feature.
