Baldur’s Gate 3‘s Long Journey to the PlayStation 5
Baldur’s Gate 3 was teased back just before E3 2019 before being officially announced during the Google Stadia presentation, which confirmed that the game would be released on Stadia and Windows. A year later in October, it was announced that it would also be playable on macOS. The following day, the early access version of the game was released, but it would not be until February 2023 that the game would finally receive a release date for Windows, macOS and the PlayStation 5. (Stadia shut down in January 2023 due to low sales and users.) Developer and publisher Larian Studios plans on also releasing an Xbox version of the game, but issues with split-screen co-op have delayed that release indefinitely. The studio hopes to have it out by the end of 2024.
While PlayStation 5 owners need to wait just a bit longer before they can play the game on their console, Baldur’s Gate 3 is already available for Windows and macOS users on Steam for $59.99. The game is currently sitting at #1 on the Top Sellers chart, surpassing Counter-Strike: Global Offensive ($14.99), Apex Legends (free to play), Naraka: Bladepoint (free to play), Overwatch 2 (free to play) and Starfield ($69.99).
