The classic horror video game franchise, Alone in the Dark, is set to make a comeback, offering an enthralling gaming experience just in time for Halloween.
As the release date of the highly anticipated remake draws near, two brand-new trailers have been released, offering a glimpse into the game’s setting and introducing Edward Carnby and Emily Hartwood who are portrayed by actors David Harbour and Jodie Comer. The game will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC platforms.
Out of the many upcoming games by THQ Nordic, Alone in the Dark stood out as a remake of its inaugural installment. The storyline revolves around a mysterious death, following Hartwood and private investigator Carnby on their quest to uncover the truth behind Emily’s uncle’s demise within the haunting Derceto Manor. The trailers provided further insights into character design, animation, and voice acting, crucial aspects brought to life by the two prominent Hollywood actors.
The story is set in Louisiana during the 1920s, where players must escape a haunted mansion. The plot centers around the mysterious suicide of Jeremy Hartwood, an artist who owned the eerie Derceto Mansion. The building’s reputation as a haunted house of sorts adds to the mystery. Players can choose between Carnby and Hartwood as they venture into the mansion to investigate. Solving puzzles and confronting supernatural entities drive the gameplay, with weapons and inventory management playing a crucial role. Exploration of the mansion’s layout reveals the unsettling secrets hidden within.
The original Alone in the Dark was released in 1992 and was referred to as one of the earliest survival horror games. The upcoming game will further explore Derceto Manor and capture the essence of 90s horror. It also has an eerie doom jazz soundtrack, intense survival challenges, and dual perspectives. Cult horror gameplay writer Mikael Hedberg, known for SOMA and Amnesia, has also contributed to the game’s story.
Alone in the Dark will be available to purchase for €59.99 / $59.99 / £49.99 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam) on Oct. 25, 2023.
