Arcane Season 2 may hit our screens in the near future.
According to HITC, rumors have begun circulating online that the award-winning tie-in animated series for Riot Games’ League of Legends may debut on Netflix in late 2024. Neither the video game developer nor Fortiche, the French animation studio behind Arcane, have confirmed or denied the leaked information at the time of writing.
Created by Alex Yee and Christian Linke, Arcane premiered on Netflix in November 2021; the series tells the story of sisters Vi and Powder (aka Jinx) as they attempt to survive in Zaun, the oppressed and impoverished underbelly of the supposedly utopian and progressive city of Piltover. The series’ first season was a massive successful, and it took home multiple prestigious awards. Most notably, Arcane is the first video game adaptation to win categories at the Annie Awards as well as categories as the Primetime Emmy Awards.
Season 2 of Arcane was greenlit fairly quickly after Season 1’s release, and many fans have wondered why production is taking so long. Riot Games CEO Nicolo Laurent responded to the inquiries, stating, “We’re making progress on [Arcane’s second season]. It’s not ready yet. There are two reasons for that, you want the quality, we just don’t want to rush, and so that takes time, and that’s a good reason.”
While viewers will have to wait a while longer to see how Vi and Jinx’s story continues, many Arcane fans have endeavored to keep excitement and hype for the animated show alive by creating their own content for the franchise. In particularly, cosplay has become a common form of positive expression within the Arcane fan community; for example, costume-making masters Vitalliyana and Astyen posted pictures of their interpretations of Vi and her love-interest Caitlyn Kiramman, while Lady Ragnarok shared her take on Jinx with an outfit that captures the Loose Cannon’s colorful aesthetic and intimidating nature.
Developed and released by Riot Games, League of Legends is a free-to-play multiplayer battle arena video game that officially launched back in 2009. Playing in teams of five, gamers pilot unique champions with individualized abilities and work together to invade the other team’s base in order to achieve victory. Like Arcane, the original game has been extremely successful, holding a concurrent player record of eight million and having a professional Esports league.
Arcane Season 1 is available to stream on Netflix, and League of Legends is playable on macOS and PC.
