The following contains spoilers for My Adventures with Superman Episode 10, “Hearts of the Fathers,” which debuted Friday, Sept. 1 on Adult Swim.
My Adventures with Superman Season 1 has given Clark Kent both physical threats and mental challenges. He’s been trying to find out his true identity, while trying to maintain his love life with Lois Lane. Thankfully, she has proven to be understanding of everything that Clark faces. Yet the season finale threw a few more hurdles in their way.
Throughut the season, the show’s mysterious General relentlessly hunted Superman down — even briefly imprisoning him. The General eventually seemed to change his mind, however, which resulted in Amanda Waller taking over Task Force X. This and other revelations paved the way for massive bombshells and big threats in Season 2.
My Adventures With Superman Season 2 Can Introduce New Villains
Season 1 ended with Superman teaming up with Jor-El. The duo shut off a portal that prevents Kryptonians and the aliens’ OMAC bots from invading Earth; however, doing so seemed to have alerted other villains in the cosmos. Brainiac told what appeared to be a robotic Zod that they have a new planet to conquer. My Adventures of Superman Season 2 will thus have to explain what these two iconic DC villains are planning.
This can provide the Man of Steel yet another internal conflict, because Clark won’t like having to fight one of his own species. But Brainiac might be tricking Zod and have ulterior motives of his own. It’s also possible that Season 2 introduces Lex Luthor. The show previously had a shady scientist named Alex who worked with Dr. Ivo, which prompted many viewers to assume Alex was Lex. If that’s true and Zod and Brainiac arrive on Earth, this could prompt Lex into action.
My Adventures With Superman Season 2 Can Update Task Force X
Season 2 can look at bringing in a new Suicide Squad. Now that Amanda Waller is in charge, she add new members who are more in line with her beliefs. My Adventures With Superman‘s version of Deathstroke also wants blood, so Waller can give Slade more power. Her new team can use more lethal tools in their pursuit of Superman, and they won’t be short of members.
Once they know more aliens are coming to Earth, it’s easy to see characters such as Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, Ratcatcher, Harley Quinn and Bloodsport trying to barter their services to Task Force X in exchange for their freedom. This would sync the series up with the DC movies and allow the show to use some of the more popular faces. Season 2 feels like the perfect opportunity to reinvigorate the roster not just to battle Superman, but to pursue greater threats.
My Adventures With Superman Season 2 Can Complicate Clark’s Life
The Kents and Lois found Clark with kryptonite poisoning, so Season 2 can answer the question of if he’s truly healthy after Jor-El sent him back. Clark may end up finding his powers on the fritz. This would make him more human and more “normal” — but it’d follow in the vein of the Christopher Reeve films and Smallville, which both showed Clark discovering that he needs his powers.
Season 2 can also dive into Clark activating the Jor-El hologram and learning more about his heritage. My Adventures With Superman has remained coy about Krypton’s destruction and what happened to the likes of Lara and Kara. This presents a chance to look at Clark’s family, culture and why he was sent to Earth. All of this would create pressure and stress for Clark, with Lois fighting tooth and nail to show Clark he’s not destined to turn on the planet like the League of Lois Lanes thought. That, in turn, would prove that he also needs her by his side and keep their relationship growing.
My Adventures of Superman Season 2 Can Reinvent General Lane
The General was revealed to be Lois’ father, General Sam Lane. But rather than kill Superman, he left the hero with Lois. Season 2 can shape this version of Sam to be more like the heroic Sam Lane in Superman & Lois, who uses his military contacts to become Superman’s partner. Sam now knows that Clark will defend the planet, which pits both characters directly against Sam’s former ally Amanda Waller. That conflict will leave their soldiers torn on which one of them to follow.
The media slant against Superman could make Sam’s new alliance with Superman difficult. The citizens of Smallville know aliens attacked, and while the people of Metropolis have backed Clark, Gotham’s antagonistic Vicki Vale will keep opposing Kal-El. Negative media coverage might reach the military or the politicians who call the shots, limiting how much Sam can actually help Clark against his new and greater enemies.
My Adventures of Superman Season 2 Can Utilize Lois & Jimmy More
Luckily for Sam and Clark, Lois and Jimmy Olsen are now full-fledged reporters and can help Perry White and the Daily Planet combat the anti-Superman propaganda. Jimmy sold his Flamebird social media platform for millions of dollars, so he can even employ outside resources like influencers or even advertisements to bolster Superman’s public image. But doing so would raise questions of a conflict of interest, so they’ll have to be careful about how they show their support for the Man of Steel. Superman needs the support of his friends now more than ever, and it seems like at least part of his next battle will be fought in the public eye, which would provide an organic way to provide both Lois and Jimmy further growth in Season 2.
All ten episodes of My Adventures with Superman Season 1 are streaming on Max.
