Ahsoka is the live-action Star Wars show designed for Disney+ that will act as a continuation of the animated character’s adventures. Although Ahsoka Tano has made an impact in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, the character’s closest friendships were built across Rebels and The Clone Wars.
The relationships that Ahsoka has built thus far in the galaxy far, far away have come to define the character. They will surely play a part in Ahsoka’s emotional development in the spinoff show. What’s more, many of these characters actually have the potential to show up and support Tano as she continues her journey.
Updated September 10th, 2023 by Jordan Iacobucci: Ahsoka is shaping up to be one of the most exciting and crowd-pleasing Star Wars events in recent memory. As Ahsoka’s list of allies continues to dwindle, viewers can revisit some of her most constructive relationships from The Clone Wars, Rebels, and beyond.
15 Huyang
Huyang is Ahsoka Tano’s droid companion during the events of her Disney+ spinoff series. Huyang has tremendous importance in Star Wars, as he has been entrusted with information regarding every Jedi’s lightsaber design for thousands of years. Before the fall of the Jedi Order, Huyang would aid each youngling in constructing their very own lightsaber for the first time.
Having evidently survived the events of Revenge of the Sith, Huyang now follows Ahsoka as she trains Sabine Wren in the ways of the Jedi. He has often acted as a voice of wisdom for Ahsoka as she navigates being a master for the first time–even if she isn’t always happy to receive his advice.
14 Ezra Bridger
Ezra Bridger is a young Jedi Padawan who was trained by Kanan Jarrus in between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. In Star Wars: Rebels, Ahsoka joined Ezra and his teammates in the build-up to the Galactic Civil War after aiding them as the mysterious informant known as Fulcrum.
Ahsoka and Ezra became quite close during their brief time fighting side-by-side. After finding the World Between Worlds, it was Ezra who brought Ahsoka Tano back after her apparent death at the hands of Darth Vader. Now, Ahsoka seeks to return the favor by bringing Ezra back following his disappearance in the Rebels series finale.
13 Sabine Wren
Ahsoka and Sabine first joined forces during the events of Star Wars: Rebels, where they worked together alongside the crew of the Ghost to fight the Empire. While the two weren’t especially close during the series itself, the final hinted that they would have future adventures together–which Ahsoka has finally portrayed onscreen.
Sabine and Ahsoka team up during the events of the series as master and apprentice. While Sabine doesn’t quite consider herself Ahsoka’s friend following their falling out, their relationship is central to the series itself. While Ahsoka struggles with teaching a Padawan who doesn’t appear to be Force-sensitive, Sabine only abides by her master’s teachings because of how deeply she wants to recover her lost friend, Ezra Bridger.
12 Hera Syndulla
General Hera Syndulla is a key figure in the Rebel Alliance and the New Republic. She and Ahsoka Tano, who was hiding her identity as the informant Fulcrum, were in frequent contact in the years leading up to the Galactic Civil War. After the war, it appears that Hera and Ahsoka stayed in contact.
Hera is one of Ahsoka’s few remaining friends in Star Wars, going out of her way to make sure that she has the support she needs in her current adventures. Hera is steadfast, resolute, and unyielding, making for a crucial ally during the events of both Rebels and Ahsoka.
11 Kanan Jarrus
Kanan Jarrus was a survivor of Order 66 and a key figure in the animated Star Wars: Rebels series. As a youngling, he admired Ahsoka Tano and her skill during the Clone Wars. Later, Kanan had the chance to fight alongside Tano while trying to bring the villainous Empire to its knees.
Prior to his death, Kanan proved to be a key ally for Ahsoka Tano during her adventures. Together, the two Jedi fought powerful enemies like Darth Vader and Darth Maul, building their camaraderie along the way. Unfortunately, Kanan was killed just prior to Ahsoka Tano’s return in the fourth season of Rebels, bringing their partnership to an early end.
10 Zeb Orrelios
Zeb Orrelios starred in Star Wars: Rebels, in which he first came into contact with Ahsoka Tano. Zeb and his friends, the crew of the Ghost, joined Ahsoka in the fight against the Empire. While he and Ahsoka were never particularly close during this time, they still considered themselves to be friends and allies during the war.
It is unclear whether or not Ahsoka and Zeb will reunite during the events of Ahsoka. Although Zeb has not been confirmed to appear in the Disney+ series, he recently made his live-action debut in the third season of The Mandalorian. This would appear to be hinting at the character’s potential return in Ahsoka, where he could finally come face-to-face with his old ally once more.
9 R2D2 & C3PO
Ahsoka has grown to love the droids that she works with. This is partially because Anakin Skywalker, her teacher, had such an affinity for droids himself. R2D2 and C3PO embarked on many of the same missions Tano was sent on, in her earliest years in the Jedi. Ahsoka has come to trust that R2D2 can always deliver when the time is right, saving her on multiple occasions.
Although Ahsoka’s relationship with C3PO is a little strained, she can still appreciate the skills he brings to the table. Ultimately, just like Anakin, she views the droids as part of the team and not merely robotic servants as some characters might. Her affection for R2 is always immediately apparent.
8 Anakin Skywalker
Anakin Skywalker is one of the most powerful characters in Star Wars history. Although his transformation into Darth Vader is heartbreaking, he did spend a lot of his career as a Jedi Knight teaching Ahsoka Tano. He became a brother to Ahsoka, with his teaching methods becoming far from conventional.
Ahsoka regularly trusted Anakin with her life. Alongside his relationship with Obi-Wan Kenobi and Padmé, Anakin truly saw Ahsoka as the final part of his family. There was some small part inside of Vader that clearly regretted where their path ended on opposite sides. However, before that fall to the Dark Side, Anakin was a tremendous ally.
7 Padmé Amidala
Ahsoka and Padmé’s relationship has always been strong. However, in the early days, Ahsoka kept a little distance from Amidala. She respected her position of power and even felt slightly intimidated by her. But as they have been involved in dangerous circumstances together, they bonded as if they were sisters.
Indeed, considering Anakin Skywalker is something of a brother to Ahsoka Tano, it stands to reason that Amidala fills the sister-in-law role tremendously well. Both Ahsoka and Padmé shared similar ideals and thus were firm allies who were always fighting for the same justice.
6 Yoda
Yoda was a leading member of the Jedi Council during Ahsoka’s time in the Order. Yoda had always been there for Ahsoka and had taken time out of his busy schedule to mentor the Padawan. Although they teamed up in battle on a few rare occasions, their bond was built because of Yoda’s faith.
Yoda clearly believed that no matter how history unfolded, Ahsoka would represent the best part of the Jedi. That is a massive confidence booster for Tano, who respects everything that Yoda represented. Yoda was deeply saddened to see Ahsoka leave the Jedi Order, but still supported her journey like the excellent ally he is.
5 Luke Skywalker
The heroic Luke Skywalker is a fascinating character for Ahsoka to grow closer to. After she had such a strong bond with Anakin Skywalker, she became somewhat of an aunt to Luke. Their friendship is continuing to develop on screen, but Ahsoka respects what Luke is trying to build.
Despite Ahsoka no longer being a Jedi, she still supports Luke’s vision to build a new Jedi Temple. Ahsoka intrinsically trusts Luke and sees the best of Anakin within him. She even relied upon Luke to take Grogu’s teachings forward, understanding that he will continue to be a firm ally who is willing to help out even when it may seem tough.
4 Din Djarin & Grogu
Din Djarin and Grogu are newer allies for Ahsoka, but ones that she has immediately come to rely upon. Ahsoka could sense kindness in the Mandalorian that she hadn’t often seen in Bounty Hunters of his reputation. His fatherly bond with Grogu only cemented that.
While Ahsoka might enjoy having the talented Mandalorian on her team, she has a closer relationship with Grogu. It was Ahsoka who first learned of Grogu’s name, and she continues to communicate with him as he steps further into the world of the Jedi. Grogu is a reminder of Ahsoka’s past and of Yoda’s mentorship. Ahsoka knows that he will carry the torch for a new generation.
3 Plo Koon
Plo Koon has supported Ahsoka Tano since she first stepped foot into the world of the Jedi. He defended her at each opportunity and had become quite the cheerleader for the Padawan. Although Ahsoka didn’t get to work with Koon as much as she would have liked, she owes him a great deal.
Much like Master Yoda, Plo Koon could see the future in Ahsoka Tano. It was Koon who first found Ahsoka and took her to the Jedi, setting her out on her path. If he had survived Order 66, there’s no doubt that he would have gone on the run with Tano and backed her up in the fight against the Empire. To Koon, Tano was the closest he came to having a daughter.
2 Obi-Wan Kenobi
Obi-Wan Kenobi has a long list of rules to follow about fitting into the Jedi. Not forming emotional attachments is one of the key ones, that matches the philosophy of the Jedi. Yet, he broke this rule again and again with Leia, Luke, Padmé, Anakin, Satine, and Ahsoka Tano. Since Anakin was Obi-Wan’s apprentice, Tano and Kenobi ended up working closely together.
Ahsoka matched the trust that Anakin placed in his Master, and she saw how Kenobi differed from the rest of the Council. Their friendship blossomed with each passing mission and they shared similar ideologies. They were equally hurt by Anakin’s turn to the Dark Side, but there was a sense that they would continue to be there for one another.
1 Captain Rex
Captain Rex is Ahsoka Tano’s oldest friend. They served together in the Clone Wars, with Rex coming to appreciate exactly what Ahsoka brought to the table. The Clone Captain watched Ahsoka grow up, into a hero of the Republic. During Order 66, Ahsoka had faith in Rex. She freed him from the Empire’s control, and he returned the favor by saving her.
Rex and Ahsoka were reunited during the Galactic Civil War and their friendship continued. If Ahsoka were to call on anyone in a desperate scenario, Rex would be the first person she’d go to. Captain Rex will surely return in the Ahsoka series to continue this beautiful alliance and friendship.
