Season 3 Trailer Teases Victor Chooses Benji

Cookbook Planner

Love, Victor‘s Season 3 trailer teases an answer to Season 2’s biggest cliffhanger: whose door did Victor show up at. One pivotal scene in the trailer suggests Victor chooses Benji, and much of the rest of it leans heavily on Victor’s desire to repair his relationship with Benji. Of course, this possibility doesn’t rule out things for Victor and Rahim, and it also doesn’t confirm either relationship is endgame. This season could benefit from exploring its initial love triangle more, but it appears that Love, Victor will introduce a new love interest — establishing a love square. After that, will Victor still choose Benji?

Love, Victor is the Hulu spin-off series of the 2018 romantic comedy Love, Simon. In the film, Simon’s classmate blackmails him and threatens to reveal his secret — he’s gay. Simon eventually comes out and gets to kiss his previously-anonymous pen pal Bram (who went by the alias Blue) at the top of the Ferris wheel. Nick Robinson appears as Simon throughout Love, Victor to give Victor Salazar advice on his coming-of-age journey. Victor’s most recent conversation with Simon assured the film’s lead that Victor is ready to take on the next chapter of his life on his own. That determination leads Victor to either Benji or Rahim’s door.

The Season 3 trailer opens with a gesture that even a casual Love, Victor viewer will recognize as emotionally loaded for Benji and Victor. The first shot sees Benji make the hand gesture he coined in the Season 2 episode, “Day One, Take Two.” Before Victor came out to Creekwood, Benji would clasp his hands together and then hold one over his heart instead of holding Victor’s hand or kissing him in public. It’s a not-so-subtle yet endearing romantic gesture that proves how much Benji respected Victor’s coming-out journey. It’s revealing for that gesture to come before showing Benji and Victor together, in the same suits they wore to the wedding.

The trailer doesn’t need to show Benji opening his door to Victor because this scene in the trailer all but explicitly confirms it. Victor’s assurance that “things got confused” with Rahim wouldn’t matter to Benji if Victor chose Rahim. It’s also important to note where Victor and Benji have this conversation — the same bench they kiss on in the Season 1 finale. Love, Victor loads the final season’s trailer with easter eggs for Venji fans. Still, that nostalgia for their past may not be enough to keep them together — if they get another chance. As much as the trailer outwardly focuses on romantic relationships, Season 3 could be about a lot more.

Victor may initially choose Benji, but there’s a chance that Benji may choose himself first. Benji tells Victor that he needs to figure out his problems independently. While that dialogue sounds spliced (like there could be a few words missing), it’s an important sentiment that Love, Victor should explore. Benji shows an admirable amount of self-awareness to know he needs to do that. That personal arc would benefit Benji as an individual and any romantic relationship he may have in the future, including one with Victor. The trailer suggests Benji may go on a trip to evaluate those problems, and hopefully, Love, Victor chronicles that.

Of course, the trip Benji prepares for in the trailer may have nothing to do with figuring himself out because everything is out of context. That technique keeps fans on their toes, but Love, Victor doesn’t need to do that. It’s already throwing in twists by introducing a new character named Nick, who could be a new love interest for Victor. If that’s true, Love, Victor will transform its love triangle into a love square. The chances of that make the final seconds of the trailer where Victor signs up for a dating app pretty ironic. Presumably, that scene happens earlier in the season — maybe when Victor and Benji agree to take more time apart.

Rahim’s involvement in the dating app saga suggests he and Victor are on good terms at some point during the season, and that could always develop into something more. Really, Victor’s romantic future is as up in the air as Victor and his friend’s futures beyond Creekwood High’s halls, which is likely the point of Season 3. If all the context clues confirm Victor goes to Benji, that must mean there is so much more waiting for Victor, Benji, and Rahim in the final season. In an out-of-context speech, Victor states how scary and important it is to admit who you love or who you are, and that matters no matter who’s on the other side of the door.

The first two seasons of Love, Victor are available to stream on Hulu, and Season 3 premieres on June 15.
