Star Wars: The Bad Batch’s Season 1 was so much of a success that Disney renewed it before its Season 1 finale. It was a great way for Star Wars to connect some dots between the original and prequel trilogies, and it offered a grounded perspective that focused on individuals rather than the large-scale conflict between Jedi and Sith. Cameos were a big part of the series, but it found solidarity as Season 1 went on.
Now, Season 2 has the potential to influence a lot of future Star Was projects, especially if Omega ends up being Force sensitive after all. With a release date in the latter half of 2022, it’s time to start theorizing about what’s next for Clone Force 99. So, here’s everything we know so far about Star Wars: The Bad Batch Season 2’s plot, trailer and release date.
What Is the Story Going into Star Wars: The Bad Batch’s Season 2?
Season 1 of The Bad Batch had its ups and downs, but overall it was a successful season. If nothing else, it laid some important building blocks by introducing a lot of peripheral characters through cameos, and there is plenty of room for Season 2 to continue that theme. For example, Captain Rex and Gregor’s whereabouts need further attention, and a young Hera Syndulla needs to make another appearance. There’s even room to have other characters show up in Season 2 — characters like Boba Fett, Commander Cody or Commander Wolfe.
The final two episodes of Season 1 were explosive – literally. The whole series has been about how the Empire has decided to phase clone troopers out of its military, but in the last two episodes, the Empire decided to put its credits where its mouth was because Admiral Rampart destroyed Kamino’s Tipoca City. However, the episode did not end with that. There was a final scene where Nala Se, the Kaminoan’s lead scientist, was shown reluctantly arriving at a mysterious planet. Many have speculated that she is at Mount Tantiss on the planet Wayland. In Star Wars Legends, that was where Palpatine housed all of his Sith relics and cloning facilities. So, even though Kamino is gone, The Bad Batch may not be done with clones. In fact, Season 2 will likely start laying the foundations for Palpatine’s efforts to clone himself.
There are a lot of directions that Season 2 could take, but the basic premise will remain the same. Clone Force 99 will still be on the run from the Empire while Crosshair pursues them across the galaxy. Although many fans expected Crosshair’s redemption by the end of Season 1, it didn’t happen because he was determined to serve the Empire.
Does The Bad Batch Season 2 Have A Trailer?
The trailer that released following 2022’s Star Wars Celebration didn’t help much with plot predictions, but it did offer a few crucial talking points. For one, Clone Force 99 has a new gray and orange paint-scheme, along with a bit of a time jump. It also showed the return of Cid the Trandoshan and her infamous parlor. Also of note was the suprise appearance of Gungi — a Jedi padawan from The Clone Wars — and a menacing cameo from Emperor Palpatine, as he announced a “new era” to the Galactic Senate. Hopefully, these will only be a taste of the surprise appearances when Season 2 comes out.
When Does The Bad Batch Season 2 Come Out?
Even before The Bad Batch’s season finale, Disney announced that the series would return for a second season. It was a hit with fans and a critical success, so the decision to renew was an easy one. Now, it’s been over a year since Season 1, and there were some unexplained delays, but The Bad Batch finally has a release date. And the good thing is that fans won’t have to wait too long much longer. Disney confirmed that The Bad Batch Season 2 would be a part of its uber-full 2022 line up (which includes The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Star Wars: Andor, and Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi — and release on September 28.
