Cookbook Planner

Dynamite Entertainment is about to give fans the gooiest, grossest war of all time in Madballs™ vs. Garbage Pail Kids.

CBR has an exclusive preview of Madballs™ vs. Garbage Pail Kids#1. Written by Sholly Fisch with art by Jason Crosby, the issue sees the two legendary franchises face one another on a battlefield covered with slime and ooze. “THE GROSS-OUT FACE-OFF YOU NEVER EXPECTED IS HERE!” Dynamite previously said of the new series. “For the first time ever, the “heavyweights of gross” have combined forces in a massive merchandising blitz that pits the Madballs against the Garbage Pail Kids-winner take all! As part of this blitz, Dynamite presents the comic book crossover of these iconic 1980s brands! For over three decades, Madballs and GPK have both been known as the ‘grossest of the gross,’ co-ruling counterculture with their pun-heavy names and subversive humor. This all-new limited series event presents the first time these two delightfully crude forces have ever crossed paths!”

Fisch is known for working on titles such as DC’s Action Comics and Looney Tunes, Marvel’s Star Wars Adventures and more. “Let’s just say that, no matter which side you’re on, you’ll find stuff to make you laugh. And, if you’re not careful, you may get splattered with slime or toxic waste, too,” Fisch previously said.

Crosby has previously drawn the Garbage Pail Kids when working on trading and sketch card sets for Topps. “I try to have my work full of energy, movement, and splattered goop, so honestly, drawing these two franchises is right up my alley,” Crosby said. “My work isn’t subtle, and I hope it explodes off the page.”

Cloudco Entertainment’s Madballs first appeared around the mid-1980s and quickly became popular amongst fans for their gross-out humor. “Madballs vs Garbage Pail Kids has been one of my favorite projects to-date,” said Cloudco Entertainment Creative Director Carlos Villagra. “Growing up with these gross, wacky, nasty brands in the 80s, and then being able to bring them to life through an awesome collaboration with Dynamite – the whole experience has really been a dream come true.”

The Garbage Pail Kids also emerged in the mid-1980s as a trading card series, with the characters later appearing in comics, cartoons, a 1987 feature film, video games and more. “The Garbage Pail Kids and Madballs share much of the same ‘twisted’ DNA; an irreverent 80’s sensibility, outrageous artwork and loyal fan bases that remain passionate to this day.” said Topps’ Ira Friedman. “It comes as no surprise that the anticipation and excitement for this comics crossover is off the charts.”

Madballs™ vs. Garbage Pail Kids #1 features cover art by Joe Simko and Crosby. The issue goes on sale in July from Dynamite.
