Whosoever holds this Xbox, if they be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.
Microsoft has unveiled the latest limited edition variant of its Xbox Series X console, which just so happens to be a tie-in with the fast-approaching Marvel Cinematic Universe film Thor: Love and Thunder. This version of the system is designed to look just like Mjolnir, the God of Thunder’s weapon of choice, complete with a handle. Fans can enter for a chance to win the Love and Thunder-themed Xbox via a Twitter sweepstakes.
Those wishing to enter must follow the official Xbox Twitter account and retweet its initial announcement post with the hashtag #ThorLoveandThunderXboxSweepstakes. Contestants must also be at least 18 years of age. The sweepstakes will conclude on Thursday, July 21 — about two weeks after Love and Thunder hits theaters on Friday, July 8. Microsoft recently held a similar competition for an Xbox system themed after the MCU-set Disney+ series Ms. Marvel, which itself premiered on June 8.
Following the events of 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, the Love and Thunder finds Thor Odinson (Chris Hemsworth) traveling the stars with the Guardians of the Galaxy. However, the God of Thunder ultimately decides to leave violence in the past and live a life of peace. But thanks to the emergence of the villainous Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), Thor is forced out of retirement. To combat this new threat, he forms a team consisting of himself; Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), the new King of Asgard; and Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who now wields Mjolnir as the Mighty Thor.
Love and Thunder is Marvel Studios’ fourth Thor film, as well as the second to be directed by Taika Waititi, following 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok. “It was Taika at his craziest,” Hemsworth recently said of Love and Thunder. “Taika, normally, is kind of at an 11, so you can do the math there. He described it as like he’d been given the keys to the kingdom, and someone said, ‘Here, if a seven-year-old was making a movie, what would you do?’ He said, ‘Well, I want to put this in it. I want to do this. I want to try this.’ And everything he suggested, I said yes to, and then we had this insane film in front of us.”
Thor: Love and Thunder releases in theaters on July 8.
