Batgirls #11 sees Mia “Maps” Mizoguchi, a fan-favorite character from Gotham Academy, come to the aid of Cassandra Cain and Stephanie Brown.
Revealed in the October solicitations from DC Comics, the synopsis information for the issue also teases an appearance by Maps’ brother, Kyle. The two Mizoguchi siblings help the Batgirls decipher a clue leading to the identity of the Hill Ripper, a serial killer whose grisly handiwork has regularly appeared in the series. Their investigation leads them into the depths of the Gotham Zoo, and one of the covers for Batgirls #11 shows Cassandra, Kyle, Maps and Stephanie in a tight spot surrounded by tigers.

- The Batgirls get help from none other than Gotham Academy’s very own Maps Mizoguchi and her brother Kyle to help decipher a clue they found that could help reveal who the killer behind all the Hill murders is, which leads them straight into…the city zoo…
Maps Mizoguchi first appeared in the pages of Gotham Academy, which was published in 2014 as one of the last titles in DC’s New 52 reboot. Instead of focusing on vigilantism in Gotham City, Gotham Academy showcased the lives of students at a prestigious prep school across the road from Arkham Aslyum, and featured a mixture of Harry Potter-style shenanigans combined with cameos from familiar Gotham faces, including the likes of Damian Wayne, Killer Croc and Batman. Maps, renowned for her plucky enthusiasm and daydream to become one of Batman’s Robins, was one of the standout characters from the series. Gotham Academy continued for another volume, Gotham Academy: Second Semester, which was published in 2016 as part of the DC Rebirth initiative.
Batman Black & White #4 from 2021 featured the return of Maps, who filled in as Robin in the 8-page out-of-continuity story “The Daven Port House.” Maps then appeared in the three-part backup story “They Make Great Pets,” which appeared in the pages of Batman #119-121. Narrated via Maps’ journal in the style of a Dungeons & Dragons adventure, “They Make Great Pets” featured the excited teen teaming up with Batman to defeat a group of kappa — creatures from Japanese mythology. Batman also helped Maps search for a missing schoolmate, and the end of the story saw Maps still feeling enthusiastic about one day becoming a Girl Wonder.
While Maps has interacted with the Dark Knight on more than one occasion, her appearance in the upcoming Batgirls #11 marks the first time that she and her brother have worked alongside the Batgirls. The issue, written by Becky Cloonan and Michael W. Conrad, features artwork by Neil Googe and covers by Jorge Corona, Audrey Mok and Rian Gonzales. It goes on sale Oct. 11 from DC Comics.
