Several new images have been released featuring several of the main characters from the upcoming Ahsoka series on Disney+.
Three of the publicity stills spotlight the titular Ahsoka Tano, played by Rosario Dawson. One features Ahsoka with a hologram of ally Hera Syndulla and an unknown protocol droid in the background. Ahsoka brandishes her white-bladed lightsaber in another.
Hera, played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead, is the subject of one of the photos. Antagonists Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati — played by the late Ray Stevenson and Ivanna Sakhno, respectively — are seen in another.
The final image spotlights Natasha Liu Bordizzo’s Sabine Wren. Sabine stands in front of the Lothalian mural she previously painted in Lothal City. The painting was first seen in the animated Star Wars: Rebels’ final story arc, “Family Reunion, and Farewell.” Her illustration prominently features two loth-wolves flanking the series’ Ghost crew.
Ahsoka Furthers the Story of Star Wars: Rebels
Ahsoka continues storyline established in Rebels, and features most of that series’ main characters. Hera, Sabine and the once-missing Ezra Bridger — played by Eman Esfandi — are among the returning protagonists. The series also introduces the live-action Grand Admiral Thrawn, played by Lars Mikkelsen, who voiced the high-ranking Imperial Officer in Rebels.
Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader is also expected to return for the series. Genevieve O’Reilly’s Mon Mothma, recently seen on Disney+’s Andor, also reprises her role.
Rebels took place in between the events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: A New Hope. The series featured the emergence of rebel factions standing up against the rise of the Galactic Empire. Rebels also focused on Ahsoka’s return following the galaxy-spanning Clone Wars. Ahsoka eventually left the Jedi Order during the series. The show ran for four seasons.
Dawson made her live-action debut as Ahsoka during the second season of The Mandalorian on Disney+. Her character took the Force-sensitive foundling Grogu for training under Jedi Luke Skywalker. Grogu, however, opted to return to the side of Mandalorian Din Djarin.
Ahsoka Tano was first introduced in the animated 2008 Star Wars: The Clone Wars film. Ahsoka became Anakin’s Padawan, and was a regular character on the subsequent Clone Wars series. The Jedi-in-training was voiced by Ashley Eckstein.
Ahsoka takes places concurrently with the events of The Mandalorian, and is scheduled for eight episodes. The series premieres Aug. 23 on Disney+
