While The Venture Bros.: Radiant is the Blood of the Baboon Heart may mark the end of the beloved animated series. Creator Doc Hammer still has plenty of ideas he’d love to explore.
Per ComicBook, the long time writer and voice actor admitted that while the end is nigh for his characters, he could see them living on for plenty of more misadventures. “We will never not have more stories to tell in this universe, but this is a pretty good ending if this needs to be the end,” Hammer said. “We were never shooting toward a specific ending, but every day I have dumb things for Hank to say. Either this will never end or we’re not over this 20 year marriage.” The creator goes on to say that Venture Bros. is “so fundamental” to who he is as a person that letting it end was a major challenge.
Radiant is the Blood of the Baboon Heart marks the final chapter of Team Venture’s story, effectively wrapping up the plot of the long-running Adult Swim series. The story will see Hank Venture become the focus of a nationwide manhunt that inadvertedly unleashes untold destruction and devestation upon the world. In the same breath, the Monarch is desperately trying to steal some of Dr. Venture’s blood while an “imposing evil from the past” threatens to destroy the Ventures and the Guild.
The Venture Bros. Bizarre Title
While the title of the Venture Bros. film has left many fans scratching their heads, Hammer and co-creator Jackson Publick revealed that it was their intention to come up with the most bizarre name possible. “We wanted Epic Stupid. We had a list of potential titles but when Doc said Radiant is The Blood of The Baboon Heart, we went with that one,” Publick said. “We really wanted blood in the title with that sense of stupid.”
Reviews for Radiant is the Blood of the Baboon Heart have been almost universal positive from both fans and critics alike, many of whom have highlighted the film’s sense of humor and emotional storytelling. “It’s one of the best animated shows of the 21st century, and Radiant Is the Blood of the Baboon Heart is a fitting final chapter,” wrote CBR reviewer Brandon Zachary.
The Venture Bros.: Radiant Is the Blood of the Baboon Heart is now available digitally with the Blu-ray arriving on July 25.
