Marvel reveals that this November, the events of Zeb Wells and John Romita Jr’s Amazing Spider-Man run are now spilling over into the rest of the Marvel Universe in a new crossover event, Gang War!
At stake is the control of super-crime in New York City, and the criminals who are going to war with each other include Hobgoblin, Mr. Negative, the Owl, Shotgun, Diamondback, A.I.M., H.Y.D.R.A., and more! Spider-Man decides that he can’t let New York City become ground zero for a war between criminals, so he decides to take drastic measures and essentially form a small superhero army to take down the gangs in just two days.
What Amazing Spider-Man and Miles Morales Spider-Man issues lead into the Gang War?
In Amazing Spider-Man #37 and #38 (by Zeb Wells and Ed McGuinness), Spider-Man teams up with Rek-Rap (a demon from Limbo who became a devoted Spider-Man fan after Spidey saved him, and then bonded with a symbiote to become an ersatz version of Spider-Man) to take on a new villain, Repo.
Meanwhile, in Miles Morales: Spider-Man #12 (by Cody Ziglar and Partha Pratim), Miles teams up with Blade and Blade’s daughter, Bloodline, to deal with a vampire threat to Miles’ friends.
How Amazing Spider-Man and Miles Morales: Spider-Man tie into Gang War
The Gang War kicks off properly in Amazing Spider-Man: Gang War First Strike #1 (by Zeb Wells and Joey Vasquez), as the simmering conflict between the various super-criminals in New York City spill over following a mysterious incitement.
This leads to Amazing Spider-Man #39 (by Zeb Wells and John Romita Jr.), where Spidey decides that he needs to settle this conflict quickly, so he gets a group of superheroes together to shut things down quickly. In Miles Morales: Spider-Man #13-14 (by Cody Ziglar and Federico Vicentini), Miles is assigned to protect Brooklyn from the gang war, and he teams up with Spider-Man and other Spider-allies, like Prowler.
What miniseries will spin out of Gang War?
Other characters from New York City are involved in the crossover, as well, in a series of miniseries. One of the most prominent figures is Luke Cage, who is the Mayor of New York City and is in charge of some severe anti-vigilante programs. His take on the gang way is depicted in Luke Cage: Gang War (by Rodney Barnes and Ramon F. Bachs).
Steve Foxe and Carola Borelli tackle Spider-Woman: Gang War, as Jessica Drew is recruited by Spider-Man for his team.
Similarly, Erica Schultz and Sergio Davila show how Elektra (who is currently Daredevil) handles the war in Hell’s Kitchen after Spider-Man recruits her, as well, in Daredevil: Gang War.
Finally, Shang-Chi is caught up in the gang war, as well, but it is unclear as to which side he is actually on. Greg Pak reveals all in Gang Way: Deadly Hands of Kung Fu.
The lead-up to Gang War begins in November.
