While many fans are speculating that Netflix’s The Witcher will will use the concept of a multiverse to explain Liam Hemsworth taking over the role of Geralt from Henry Cavill, executive producer Tomek Baginski confirms that won’t be the case.

Speaking with Wyborcza, in an interview translated by Redanian Intelligence, Baginski compared the upcoming moment in the show to one of the more pivitol books in the saga series. “Many book readers forget what Andrzej Sapkowski did in the fifth volume of the saga. For me, this is one of the most important things in the whole story,” the executive producer explained. “I’m not talking about specific events, but the narrative framework that was introduced in this book. Suddenly, at the beginning of the book, we learn that everything we’ve read so far might not have been true. And this cannot be compared with, for example, the currently popular concept of the multiverse, where out of nowhere there are many different realities.”

Following the conclusion of The Witcher Season 3, fans were left wondering how the show would successfully recast Cavill with Hemsworth. Many suggested that the idea of Spheres, effectively the story’s explanation of alternate worlds and dimensions, would play a role in the process. Others seemingly correctly predicated the show would tweak the framing of the narrative, leaning on the idea that Geralt’s adventures were so legendary that they’d taken on different forms after having been passed down through generations.

Confidence in Hemsworth

Whatever the case may be, fans did not take the announcement that Hemsworth would take on the role of Geralt lightly. Many involved with the show’s production have come out in support of the actor; Anya Chalotra, who plays Yennefer of Vengerberg is confident the new actor will do an excellent job as the titular monster hunter. “I’m not worried. He’s going to be brilliant. I really think so. I mean, we’ve spent five years going on this journey together, and I’m so excited for Henry,” the actor said. “At some point, that had to come to an end, his portrayal of Geralt, and that’s been incredible. We’ve had such a wonderful time with him. But also bringing in new people to this journey we’re on is so exciting at this stage.”

The Witcher Seasons 1 – 3 are now streaming on Netflix. Season 4 does not yet have a release date.
