The following contains spoilers for Foundation Season 2, Episode 10, “Creation Myths,” streaming now on Apple TV+.

Foundation‘s Lou Llobell recently unpacked the unconventional mother-daughter bond between her character, Gaal Dornick, and Salvor Hardin (Leah Harvey) in Season 2 of the Apple TV+ sci-fi show.

Llobell described Gaal and Salvor’s “wild” relationship — the result of the latter being older than the former due to cryo sleep-related plot mechanics — in an interview with Collider. “The only good thing about it is that they’ve actually got each other in a situation where they have no one left… One of my favorite [Gaal/Salvor] scenes is the fruit scene. The fruit scene was such a sweet, cute, lovely scene that is so separate to the whole show, and it’s such a tender moment,” she said. “It’s lovely to have been able to find those moments because you don’t get to see Gaal doing much of that. You just get her trying to run away from disaster or save disaster, or something bad is always happening. But the scripts are really well written, you don’t have to do much when the words do it all.”

“Also, the dynamic is so awkward,” Llobell continued. “That dynamic between Gaal and Salvor is so awkward, that it’s okay for it to be so awkwardly funny and also for it to just be really dead, like, ‘Oh, I just don’t wanna carry on talking.'” Leah Harvey also weighed in on Foundation Season 2’s Gaal/Salvor scenes in a recent interview, noting that they offered her “a nice opportunity” to act opposite Llobell after spending Season 1 largely apart. Harvey spoke positively about the “cute little team” that forms between Gaal, Salvor, and Jared Harris’s Hari Seldon in Foundation‘s second season, and said that she, Llobell, and Harris “had a good time” on set.

Foundation Star Talks Gaal and Hari’s Season 2 Dynamic

The positive vibes between Llobell, Harvey, and Harris during principal photography stand in stark contrast to the more strained dynamic between their respective characters in Foundation Season 2. Notably, Gaal and Hari spend much of the Isaac Asimov adaptation’s second batch of episodes rebuilding their partnership after falling out at the end of Season 1. According to Llobell, Gaal was always going to reconcile with Hari by the time the second season wrapped up because “the plan [Hari developed] still makes sense.”

As many viewers will no doubt attest, digesting Hari’s plans isn’t always easy — and even Harris himself had to work hard to wrap his head around them. The star admitted as much in a recent interview, opining that “trying to keep track of what you do know and what don’t you know” when portraying Seldon’s different incarnations is a challenge, as well as what makes the role “fun.”
